Michael, I've got all of my data coming from a view in a database as a query layer. My concern is that when we update the database, if I have to export the data from the view as a query layer I'll have to add the data to the dashboard again, essentially remaking it. I haven't found any documentation on updating query layers for Operations Dashboard. Do you know of any, or do you have insight into this? T Thanks, Gayle

I'm trying to put together information for an operations dashboard. Our data almost exclusively comes from query layers from our database, which gets updated 3 or 4 times each year. Even our symbology is based on age of the data: Within 5 years, 6-10 years old, 11+ years old. That's got me wondering about updating the data on the dashboard. How easy is it to update the dashboard when the data source is a query layer? Will I have to rebuild the map using new query layers as the data comes in?

Did you ever figure this out? I'm running into the same problem.

Derek - thanks, I fully agree with Alyssia on the widget. I had no idea it existed! I'll be giving it a try!

That is unfortunate, since I need this ability now as our current system is in desperate need of an update. If you had an estimate of when it will be incorporated, I could at least let my leadership know that there is a justification in waiting.

No, I haven't figured anything out. I ended up making multiple maps for each iPad, which I foresee as potential confusion in the field, and an overwhelming amount of work for me. For one community I'm going to have to make upwards of 40 maps. If ESRI doesn't come through for us, we'll need to try to go elsewhere.

I agree. I'm finding it very frustrating as our ESRI rep is introducing us to their apps, resulting in me spending significant amounts of time learning them and customizing them, only to find in the end that they do not fit our needs. Customized apps are out of the question for us. I wish ESRI would be more responsive to their clients needs.

For our purposes, it seems that ESRI products such as Collector and Dashboard are promising, but they just don't quite meet our requirements. I have to tell my boss this week that we can't export data from Dashboard. Which means we have to come up with a different method of data sharing. We really can't wait for ESRI to decide if they are going to add this capability or not. Our current system is failing.

We would like to replace our current online data sharing system with Operations Dashboard. But we would need a way for users to download data as csv and shapefiles.

We work in remote Alaska where there is absolutely no wifi available, interviewing indigenous people about their hunting, fishing and vegetation gathering activities. We collect hundreds of points, lines and polygons, where most of them end up overlapping. It gets to be so that we can't find a particular record to edit it, and adding new data becomes not only confusing, but the people being interviewed are seeing where others hunt and fish and tell us "that's close enough", so the current Collector setup is leading to collection bias. Being able to filter by an attribute would allow us to only have the data we are working on show up in the app. I have to say that Collector Classic was much better for our use than the new version of Collector, all we need is the ability to filter by attribute in Classic while offline, and it will be perfect.

I'm having trouble with the map resolution of offline areas in Collector. I have a tile package that is in the correct projection (WGS 1984 Web Mercator), and it works as a basemap while our iPad is connected to the wifi. But it doesn't work when I have it set as the basemap for offline use due to a spatial reference error. ESRI personnel walked me through this and can't figure out why it isn't working offline. So I'm trying to use the basemap used in the webmap. Unfortunately, at the scale that I need (the state of Alaska), the topo map is unusable due to resolution issues. Does anybody have any ideas either for getting the tile package to work offline or have a basemap with a enough resolution for an extremely large area (say 1/2 of continental US) to make a useful offline area?

I've got a tile package that worked well in Collector Classic. I'm trying to "upgrade" to the new Collector. I've sideloaded the same tile package, and while the iPad is connected to the wifi, the tile package shows up as my basemap. But when I try to make an offline area from it, the error message states that it was not found on my device. Any help would be appreciated!

I've been asking about filtering data as well. My field workers collect an inordinate amount of data, most of it overlapping, in remote Alaskan communities that have no internet access. Filtering data by attribute in Collector would increase its functionality immensely. Last year my field crews used paper maps rather than using Collector for data collection. This year I've got them using offline areas, one for each data point. It's clunky, but at least they can see the data they are working with. I'm honestly not sure how it will work, since our field season starts in January. Having to deal with upwards of 50 offline areas on each iPad seems overwhelming. So I believe my organization will be looking for another method of field data collection for next year. Collector is simply barely usable for our purposes.

Did you ever figure out if you could use the Function (a sql script that pulls data from many different tables/databases and also performs calculations) in ArcGIS Online? I find myself in this same situation. Our data is way too complicated to pull together in anything other than a function.
