Ok ... FINALLY worked it out, by accident. The save edits of a portal map hanging that is. I had a couple of 'local' web services in my portal map and the default ArcGIS Online basemap. If I replaced the base map service with a local service then the portal map would save straight away. A few other equally odd behaviours to get to this point and hopefully our local ESRI Support will be passing them on. Still some issues with publishing hosted services and just skipped that for now and published unhosted.

Hi All Thanks for your pointers and unfortunately these did not help. This is occurring on a test machine. We are setting up an Amazon site today so I'll try all again in the next few days and see if I have better 'luck'. Thanks again

G'day All A follow on from: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/98757-Location-Tracking-with-10.2?p=353352#post353352 After clicking Edit for a map, Changing the Application Settings, and clicking Save ... the page just hangs with Please wait where the thumbnail would be. I am able to change the name. Fiddler shows that the following never returns, and does return true for the name change: POST /arcgis/sharing/content/users/ME@DOMAIN/items/71da0a915c724288be72dcc6bcc8e946/update HTTP/1.1 Any suggestions? Thanks for your time

G'day Russ Ok, if I publish the Service Definition file via Portal I can see the Location Tracking Application Setting when I click Edit for a Map. If I publish via ArcMap I don't see the Location Tracking option?!?! So now I go to set my tracking interval. After I click Save, the Edit Map page hangs with Please wait... where the thumbnail and edit button would be. If I exit / view the page in another tab, the Location Tracking remains unset. Update on republishing services as hosted. I have two lots of four feature classes. One lot is what I would like the field to edit. The other lot is what is currently approved, from the field and other sources. I can publish each field feature class as an individual service. When I try to publish all four field feature classes in the one service ArcMap crashes. Running out of options to get this working.

G'day Russ! OK, I can now see the Location Tracking Application Setting. I created a Hosted service and added that to a Portal map all by itself. There is some bug where the service publishing process thinks I haven't registered the data store, when I have. The Publisher database connection string is different depending on how you register; ie ENCRYPTED_PASSWORD present or not. For the sake of moving forward I allowed the Data Store Setting of allow data to be copied. Not what I really want and one thing at a time. If I add the location tracking hosted service to a map with non hosted services I don't get the Application Settings option. This is expected? I am trying to recreate my services as hosted services and ArcMap keeps crashing. I have emailed the .dmp file to arcgiserrorreport@esri.com Watch this space

G'day Russ! Some minor progress. I can now see my details when logging into https://mydomain/arcgis/sharing I have federated my ArcServer / ArcPortal and turned off Windows Authentication for the ArcPortal website. I still don't see any Location Tracking Application Setting. I suspect this may be due to not publishing the web service as Hosted? I am currently getting errors trying to do this which I'll try and tackle tomorrow. I see no services in ArcCatalog under My Hosted Services, except an empty Drafts folder. Publishing a service ends with Packaging succeeded, but publishing failed. Failed to execute (UploadServiceDefinition) No meaningful messages in the Geoprocessing Results window. ArcServer says Error executing tool.: ERROR 001488: The service you are trying to publish includes data but the site has been configured such that data cannot be copied to the server. ERROR 001364: Validation of service definition failed. Failed to execute (Publish Service Definition). Failed to execute (Publish Portal Service). I'll have our DBA look at the database user permissions. Thanks again
