We are happy to inform our user community that ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World not only provides a collection pretrained deep learning models, but also provides World Imagery as a high-resolution imagery source for automated feature extraction. Acquiring high-resolution aerial and satellite imagery may not be feasible for some organizations. Visually inspecting or hand digitizing features from imagery can be time consuming, tedious, and expensive. AI and deep learning can help save time and money by automating manual processes, but not everyone has the expertise or resources to train a deep learning model. If you are experiencing any of these limitations, we just might have a solution for you. This learning tutorial will walk you through a step-by-step workflow using a pretrained deep learning model from Living Atlas to detect building footprints from the World Imagery basemap in ArcGIS Pro. While this tutorial focuses specifically on building footprint extraction, you will find a number of pretrained deep learning models in Living Atlas that you can leverage to extract a variety of information. Find the full tutorial by @RobertWaterman here. Visit the ArcGIS Living Atlas home page to learn about what's new and how to use content. Esri’s NAIP Image Service has now been updated to include the NAIP 2023 imagery. With this update, our NAIP timeseries now includes NAIP annual coverage from 2010 through 2023. The 2023 coverage contains multispectral imagery at 0.3 to 0.6 meter resolution for approximately half of the Continental United States. You can reference the NAIP Coverage map to see all of the states included in the 2023 coverage, as well as the historical data accessible through the NAIP timeseries. Use the contents pane to explore years, or click on a state to view data availability information in a pop-up. You can discover and access NAIP imagery through ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World. Hi Todd, This item is not in our records as ever being a Living Atlas layer, but I contacted someone from the DOT to ask them about the service URL you provided. They noted that the service is an outdated dataset and that the grant program updates annually. They provided me the following service for County-based Persistent Poverty as defined for BUILD (formerly RAISE): https://services.arcgis.com/xOi1kZaI0eWDREZv/ArcGIS/rest/services/2023_06_05_Counties_APP_(2021_US_Census)/FeatureServer I was also able to find a few additional resources on the DOT website I hope you find useful: https://www.transportation.gov/grants/mpdg-areas-persistent-poverty-and-historically-disadvantaged-communities-1 https://www.transportation.gov/grants/mpdg-areas-persistent-poverty https://maps.dot.gov/BTS/GrantProjectLocationVerification/ Otherwise, Living Atlas contains a wealth of poverty-related content that you can access and use within your workflows. The U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survery content within Living Atlas contains annually-updated data estimates about many poverty-related attributes. Here is a link to some layers and maps you may find useful: https://livingatlas.arcgis.com/en/browse/?q=poverty#q=poverty&d=2&rgnCode=US

One of the many benefits of using Esri Vector Basemaps is the ability to make custom changes with our ArcGIS Vector Tile Style Editor (VTSE). Changes can be as simple as switching road or water colors, or hiding entire layers of features. Changes can also include customizing specific map labels. This quick tutorial by Andrew Green steps you through how to create a custom label for an area of interest using some basic JSON edits. The June 2024 Broadband Data Collection (BDC) is now available within ArcGIS Living Atlas. This ready-to-use layer shows fixed broadband availability for every Census Block and H3 Resolution-8 hexagonal area in the U.S. and outlying territories. The layer summarizes the June 2024 BDC data showing the number of served, underserved, and unserved Broadband Serviceable Locations (BSLs) in total and by transmission technology for a given geography. It is a composite of six sublayers – State, County, Tract, Block Group, Block, and H3 Resolution-8 hexagons – each with a related table listing all Internet Service Provider (ISP) offerings by technology and speed tier. Visit the blog by @PatrickRyan and Steven Aviles to learn more about the layer and associated Provider Comparison App and Provier Footprint Dashboard. The new content is designed to help address the digital divide throughout the US, and can help pinpoint areas where public policy can make an impact. Esri is excited to announce the addition of global fishing intensity layers to ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World. These new 1-kilometer resolution multidimensional datasets are the product of Global Fishing Watch, an independent, international nonprofit organization whose purpose is to provide a global real-time view of fishing – making human activity at sea publicly accessible. Visit this blog for a quick summary of the new available layers. Global Fishing Intensity (Year 2020) provides a global summary of vessel activity in the world’s oceans, detected from AIS tracking data, and is represented as total hours per 1km cell for the year 2020. Global Fishing Intensity – Monthly Time Series (Year 2020) provides a more granular look at fishing intensity, with monthly summaries for 2020. For a deeper dive into how the Global Fishing Watch fishing intensity layers were created, and how they can be used for monitoring and protecting the world’s oceans, visit the Global Fishing Watch: Illuminating vessel activity on the open ocean StoryMap. Hi Andrew, thank you for your question. I have checked with our internal resources and it appears that we do not currently have a set of ZIP+4 data within ArcGIS Living Atlas or Business Analyst. However, one of our data partners, TomTom, appears to have ZIP+4 options: https://www.adci.com/tomtom-map-data. You should be able to also obtain them from USPS directly: https://postalpro.usps.com/address-quality-solutions/zip-4-product. Hope this helps!

Thank you for your question. Esri Tapestry data is currently being reimagined within Living Atlas as an updated product, which will likely be available in the format you are familiar with in the coming months. In the meantime, you can still access the Tapestry data using the Enrich tool in ArcGIS Online and Pro, and also within Business Analyst. Here is a resource that may be helpful for you to create a custom tapestry map of your own: https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/arcgis-living-atlas/data-management/make-a-demographic-map-in-5-minutes/

The University of Botswana’s sprawling campus has always been a challenge to navigate. Buildings are not arranged according to any order, therefore students, guests and even faculty members of the university often struggle to find the locations of lecture halls and classrooms, labs, and essential services. The struggle to navigate the campus would have continued if it were not for Dr. Pelane-Modutlwe Lillian and a small group of students who decided to build a useful campus basemap that would serve everyone.
Dr. Pelane-Modutlwe Lillian recruited a group of third-year students from the Department of Environmental Science in the Faculty of Science. This project was completed through the Living and Learning Communities Academic Mentorship Program.
Learn how this community used the Community Maps Editor to help improve the Esri Basemap collection by improving their own campus basemap. Read the blog or the full story.

We would like to introduce the new Environment Basemap which is now available across the ArcGIS platform. Most traditional basemaps are human focused, displaying roads, municipal boundaries, and other human-centric/human created features. The Environment Map is Esri’s first ever Environment focused basemap, designed to let the environmental data speak for itself, and more easily expose environmental trends and patterns.
