Donal Did you ever get a solution to this. I've started having the same problem on a new environment I am building. token requests fail using a web adapter but work fine connecting to directly to the web server. I have set up everything to use https. and I'm not getting any errors with logging in and displaying map services, only with token generation.

Are you using token based security or a print widget? I've never been able to get print services to work with tokens, I've always had to use a proxy web page instead. Discussion here

We have had ArcGIS server running on an EC2 instance without problems for the last 2 years. I am now trying to change to a larger instance. I followed Amazons steps to create a new instance Stop existing instance Make a new image from the instance Launch the new image specifiying the new larger instance size Everything appeared to go smoothly. I can log into the new instance and all data and files are there. The problem is ArcGIS server will not start. I tried manually starting the service from the service console but it stopps after a few seconds. It doesn't look like the tomcat web server gets launched. service_error.log shows the following: "INFO: getting data at url: http://169.254.169.254/latest/meta-data/local-ipv4 com.esri.arcgis.discovery.admin.AdminException: Could not create directory path '\SITEHOST\config-store'. This is required to maintain the Site configuration. Please check that the location is valid and that the ArcGIS Server account has permissions to the location." SITEHOST is the name of the server machine in ArcGIS server. Typing \SITEHOST\config-store into a browser shows page not found, but in the working instance it shows a directory with the expected config files. This is why I think the problem is with tomcat starting. Does anybody know what could be causing this?

Robert I think I figured it out, at least for me.. I think group layers were getting ignored or misread. in TOCMapLayerItem.as. What was happening that all sublayers were getting turned off if a grouplayer was turned on. To fix it I changed if (item.isGroupLayer()) to if (item.isGroupLayer() && item.visible) in the updateTOCItemVisibility function, line 253 To be honest I'm not sure exactly why this was turning off layers that should have been on. Possibly the case where group layers were off was throwing the recursive loop off. Or maybe something to do with how Flex thinks turning on a group layer automatically turns on all sublayers, even if they are currently off?

Matthias I have a couple of older editing tools that are currently just a .dll registered on the end users machines. I was planning on migrating them to a proper .NET addin. Is there any advantage in still doing this or should I hold off and just concentrate in rewriting them for ArcGIS Pro? I guess I'm asking how compatible will Desktop .NET addins be with Pro?

Robert Thanks for getting back to me. I am taking about all the layers within a group layer in the map service turning off, weather they have scale dependance or not. I think that when the zoom level changes the scale dependance forces a refresh of the TOC widget. However during the refresh it turns off all sub layers. The problem doesn't happen when changing between every zoom level, but only changing between certain ones. That's why I think the scale dependance is triggering the refresh, but not sure why the refresh turns off all the layers. If you were to turn on the contours group or the water infrastructure group and start changing between zoom levels you should see the problem. Thanks for you help

Robert Hope I'm in the right thread. I have a question about your excellent eLayerList widget and it's home page directed me to version 1 of this thread. I've been using a modified version of your widget in a custom app. When I upgraded to the latest release I'm noticing that the TOC widget is turning off map layers automatically when the layers are nested within a group layer and the layers are refreshed,as in a map zoom. At first I thought it was my customizations but when I tied my map service with your widget in the default flex view the same behavior occurred. You can test by adding this map service to the flex viewer, zooming in all the way and turning on the contour group layer and sub layers. As you zoom out they will turn off. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Here is the esri source code Esri/resource-proxy · GitHub download your preferred language and then install as a web app on oyur web server. Next play around with the proxy.config settings until they are right for your environment. e.g.
<ProxyConfig allowedReferers="*"
mustMatch="false">
<serverUrls>
<!--<serverUrl url="http://services.arcgisonline.com"
matchAll="true"/>-->
<serverUrl url="http://MyWebServer:6080/arcgis/rest/services"
username="MyID"
password="MyPass"
rateLimit="600"
rateLimitPeriod="60"
matchAll="true">
</serverUrl>
</serverUrls>
</ProxyConfig>
You might need to/probably should lock down what is available through the proxy. There are instructions on how to do this in the readme.txt

Had the same issue. Originally I had my data in SDE and even if I removed the quotation marks it didn't work for me. When I moved my data to a FGDB and removed the quotation marks it did work.

Fridjof I'm looking for documentation on this bug to send to my IT department but I can't find it listed anywhere, do you have a link or is ESRI still keeping it a secret?

This was my problem as well, thanks for the suggestion. In my case IT had just set MS Forefront Endpoint Protection to do a full system scan Thursday afternoons, right when I started getting this error. The same script runs without issue any other time.

Thanks everyone for your reply's. To summarize what I've learned from you and research on my own: .NET/ArcObject addins are still more flexible, especially for tools requiring a GUI interface. Python addins are quite advanced, allowing editor extensions and events. They can also call ArcObject libs if necessary but don't handle GUI objects (at least that I can see). Things are less clear for ArcGIS pro, which caused me to ask this question in the first place. ArcGIS Pro has its own API, not ArcObjects, but it will also handle customizations through the python addin model. At least that is my reading of this excellent response by Jim McKinney. Taking into account all of this from here on in I'm going to use the python addin model as much as possible in ArcGIS Desktop and hope that these addins will translate to ArcGIS Pro. For addins requiring a lot of GUI stuff I'll stick with ArcOjects for now and rewrite down the line when my users get off of Desktop or ESRI retire it.

Thanks Dan I didn't realize python addins were capable of extensions and handling editing events, exactly what I was looking for.
