Thanks for posting your schema diagram and the part about the aliases. I'm a bit confused about "The related records will show in the pop-ups under their appropriate tables, but I don't think you can add them to the forms for data collection yet." I've added related records to the form in the map viewer but I haven't gotten to the testing phase in field maps yet. So this is a new one. 😞 My schema diagram is much more complicated with many 1:many relates so this all just tells me I need to start small and take it all the way through to Field Maps to see what's gonna work. I also have not thought about using Survey 123 because of the 1:many relates. I would welcome the solution on Field Maps/Survey123. I may be headed back to the drawing board on this. This has been working on a much smaller scale for one region of Florida but was built before form designer or the new map viewer etc. etc. and it worked great in Field Maps. Oh well. Thank you so much.

Okay, got it. I'm still in the process rebuilding a couple tables, but do you know if more than one table relate per feature layer will work in the map viewer? I think I may have to use groups or logic to keep the fields from opening all at once if it will work. Thank you!

This is interesting, @TylerGraham2 because I have the same relational db design with feature layers pointing to the same table. However, I also have more than one table relate for two of my feature layers. I haven't been able to find anything yet about whether Field Maps designer will accommodate anything like this. Can you or @DougBrowning comment? I'm building in Pro, publishing to AGO and have gone back and forth several times already to change up my approach. I appreciate your posts!

Thank you, Josh! This is what I've been looking for. Just have to use the right search words because I've been looking for a solution for a while. Kristal

Hi @MatthewAllen and @MarloKapsa, I think what you are asking is about the truncate and append options. Whenever the web map is updated, the same updates should be reflected in the web app if the app (WAB or Experience Builder) is linked to that map in the settings of the app. It's one of the first things you enable when creating the app. I say should because there's always the possibility that some additional configuration might be needed, i.e., pop-ups. Most of my experience is based on working with WAB. I have built databases with multiple feature layers in ArcPro, published to ArcGIS online as a hosted feature service. All layers are in one service and can be individually edited in ArcGIS online, i.e., add new fields, etc. To update this service, I would recommend reading through the community posts in this discussion. https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-online-documents/overwrite-arcgis-online-feature-service-using/tac-p/1289660#M1618 Because I have not had to update in a while, I have bookmarked this for when I will begin updating again but hopefully some of this information will fit your situation. There used to be an overwrite option where you could select the layer to update right from ArcPro. I believe that's changed. But take a look at that forum for more information. Happy mapping! Kristal

Hi, I read through your article but realize that attribute rules don't seem to work unless there is a global id in the feature class or table which is the target of the auto-sequence event. Is that correct? I have a database with many relates and want to create auto-sequencing ids that are triggered by 1) a polygon drawn (a feature geometry) or a cell populated by customer information or property information being entered (related tables). This is a file geodatabase which will be hosted in AGOL and customized for Field Maps. It is not an enterprise database. I've attached an entity relationship diagram and would appreciate any feedback on this. I'm certainly not opposed to changing data types or relates if I need to. This is a fresh build so now's the time to make it right! Thank you in advance. Kristal

This is very frustrating. We are embarking on a statewide RDMS which has partly been developed for one region in the Classic Viewer and utilizes field maps, smart editor, etc. I don't understand ESRI's reluctance on this! I've promised the world to my agency on the premise that I can push this RDMS via AGOL and all its apps but fear that some pieces/parts may be retired mid-development. Seriously having to consider our options.

Hi Jenny, well my relational database is structured with each area feature class related to one table and we are moving along pretty smoothly now using a relational database published from ArcPro in AGOL as a Feature Service. Each feature class represents a practice that had too many variables and in my lack of experience on relational databases, there may have been a way this could have been structured more simply, but it’s working pretty good right now. Are you building this in ArcPro? It was pretty straightforward for me? Is your relationship one to many? I’d be glad to try to help. It helps me to learn more also! I’ll be on the lookout. Kristal

Hi Kate, did you figure this out? The editable settings can be managed by layer (turned off and turned off) in "Manage Geometry Updates while you do your edits. Others can only edit your data if 1) they have that user type assigned in their own profile settings and 2) you share the data with them in a way that they have access to it. I share my entire web map with my users because they manage their own data, but your could create a web app and turn off the editing capability on that end so that they can still view it but not edit it. Hi Luke, is this something that just changed with ArcPro 2.9? I'm just learning how to work with Data Reviewer and was reading about map rules which worked with multiple layers and then realized it was redacted in later versions, after 2.8 I believe. I don't understand why this capability was removed. Kristal

I'm replying to my own topic here, in case someone runs across this in the future. When publishing data to ArcGIS online from ArcPro with a defined projection, ESRI's default coordinate system Web Mercator takes over. I don't know of a way to preserve the "incoming", defined projection. I did correct for measurements of areas and lines using Arcade expressions in pop-ups. When our biologists opened the feature service from AGOL in desktop (I did not anticipate this part of their workflow), the geometry corrections were no longer preserved and their measurements were wrong. So we are limiting any geometry measurement reporting to AGOL where Arcade expressions can be applied.

Absolutely! I'm glad you were able to work it out. It's always a challenge, isn't it! And now there's a new map viewer. LOL! I'm not going there yet. I don't think it plays well with relates. As an FYI, my relational database was built in ArcPro, published to AGOL as a feature service. That feature service supports a web map which I've used to build a web editor using the Web App Builder. There's some configuring in a couple places but all the relates work pretty well in the map, the web editor and in Field Maps. I've got to add a couple more relational tables this week so will be taking the whole things offline, adding the new tables and then publishing it again. Fingers crossed I don't have too much reconfiguring to do! I just recently learned about the Field Maps Web and had not used that before. I had built everything in the web map. Good luck and I'm on here pretty often but posts also come to my email. Kristal

Hi Jenny, I am seeing that your post is about 4 weeks old. I just went through a relational database build for use in field maps and would be glad to try to help. I had someone with whom I connected through a forum who helped me so I totally am about paying it forward! I can tell you how I created my relational DB that if you still need help. Kristal

Hi all! I've been slowly moving our private lands biologists to a Fields Maps-based data collection workflow but there are still some remnant pieces/parts that we have yet to integrate. I have created a relational database in ArcPro and defined it to a custom projection matching that of our agency data, published to AGOL as a feature service. The staff use a web editor for data management in the office and can create and manage their own data. But our agency has to incorporate a desktop site assessment which utilizes an ArcMap plug-in and when the feature service is opened in ArcMap, the projection changes--- so areas are incorrect. Does anyone know how to preserve the projection from AGOL to desktop? @AlixVezina is this something you might be able to help with? Or can you point me to the right person? The staff use specific templates to also create maps and I have to explore whether I can set this up in AGOL. They do not have access to Pro. Thank you very much for your input. Kristal
