answer i should have a rule not to do anything that requires focus on Friday. all this is pretty stupid. turns out the domain description is different that the value in the field. when i fixed this so 'TransmissionShaft' instead of 'Transmission Shaft' it works fine both in your query and the esri on. go back to doing something more interesting.

Robert, update on the geometry issue. i created a new arcmap document that did not have the Definition query. the field that was being used for this has a domain , which might be a factor, i don't know. i resymbolized the map so it looks the same. published it, build a webmap and loaded it into a new WABdev map. i built the query as i had before. it works. so there is something about the def. query and/or the domain. have you run into any issue with domains in def queries that could cause this. fyi i have built a query with your esearch and set the def query when i do there are no records in the dropdown. just the word 'all' i'm using the same syntax as in arcmap.... not the aliasname FITTINGTYPE = 'Transmission Shaft' so there is something about the def. query. maybe i'll try turning off the domain.

here are 2 screenshots. note that the dropdown list populates and it seems to have found the feature but the F12 display shows it is unable to get the geometry. the point on the map is what i searched on so it can display.

yes, it mentions not being able to find the geometry or the search returns a null value. i am wondering if the alias is an issue. when i build the query it is the alias field name that i am picking from the dropdown list. however when i look at the field names that i can display they are the actual names. the other odd thing is that the layer is displaying on the map just fine. i can click the mouse and get info on the pts. so it can't be that the geometry is messed up. and i have the shape and objectid fields active in the mapservice. must be something basic if both the standard and your query tools have the same behavior.

Robert, I have an odd thing happening i have a Featureclass that has a definition query set in Arcmap. the query is FEATURECODE = "Transmission Shafts" some of the field names have alias like FEATUREID set to "Facility Identifier' or FEATURECODE set to "Feature Type". using either the Esri query tool or your Esearch in the WABdev i am able to load the mapservice layer and populate the field names. however when i go to build a query using any of the fields and click on the "unique" option none of the records list. any ideas how to trouble shoot this? Robert, did you and Tapas ever solve why some of the esri basemaps don't have thumbnails. this screenshot is just from the standard portal WAB,not the developer version.

I am looking for a way to select points more easily. I do not care if I accidently select more than one. does anyone have a solution to this. my field staff assume that collector isn't working if they touch a feature and it doesn't get selected.

i see this too with the light gray canvas. i just pasted in a new image. i am just using the esri basemap widget, so i doubt it has anything to do with Robert's code.

can you use a definition query in the query to limit the data that has to be evaluated? if not it sounds to me like you should use arcmap instead. web stuff is always subject to timeouts.
