Hello, I have my Parks finder (10.1) application up and running, and everything works great on it. My Parks department, however, would like the ability to search by specific facilities at each park, since we have rather large acreage parks with multiple facilities. For instance, the James Wood Picnic shelter is located at Sherando Park. Currently, if you search for "Sherando" or "picnic", the app will send you to the Sherando park point, as expected, but I need it to drill down further. My first thought is to just add these individual facilities to the FacilitySitePoint featureclass, but that would interfere with some of my other services that use this dataset(MyGovernmentServices). My other thought is to publish another service (currently I have this data sitting in a point feature class in a FGDB on my desktop) with this data, and configure the search bar to search the "NAME" field in the service. Looking through the config.txt file, I know that the 'FindTaskLayer' and 'DevPlanLayer' are used to define the REST Service for the query features.... can this accept multiple map service layers? I appreciate any thoughts and time given! Thanks, Andrew

This is exactly what I was thinking now that I have my windows docked in arcmap. It is very frustrating when I need to switch to layout view, but my TOC is hiding the button! Thanks ktroutman, for suggesting this.

Thanks for the response, Duane. I couldn't get that workflow to work for me, so I ended up just deleting my queries on the Shape fields. Makes my basemap look slightly sloppier, but it gets me past the bug.

Duane, Not to resurrect an old thread, but I just wanted to confirm that I am have encountered this same issue as well. Up until now, I have been publishing our local gov basemaps from a file gdb. We have since moved it to an enterprise database to help make the updating process a little easier. Since trying to publish the basemaps from the sde database, I have come across the same errors with the geometry queries on the SHAPE.STArea and SHAPE.STLength fields. I do find it odd that ESRI included these queries in their basemaps, and never came across the bug before release. Surely they must have tested in an enterprise environment? Did you ever find a satisfactory workaround? Thanks, Andrew

The best way that I found to do this is to follow ESRI's method for importing the xml schema into a geodatabase. http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/localgovernment/10.1/index.html#/Migrating_your_data_to_the_Local_Government_geodatabase/028s00000049000000/ They suggest using a tool for ArcCatalog called X-Rayhttp://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=c181d52a95b946abab6208322dc8410b If you use this tool, then you can set the spatial reference during the import process using an existing dataset that you have. I gotta say that it wasn't a smooth process for me, as it doesn't seem that x-ray is a very polished tool. In the end though, it made sure that the whole model was referncing my state plane coordinate system

Hello, I have the Citizen Service Request app (10.1) up and running. Something that concerns me with this application is the file-upload feature. its meant to be used to upload photos or supporting docs, but I don't want any malicious files being uploaded to our server or database. I see that there is a file size exception, but I've been combing through the application files, and haven't been able to find any kind of file extension handling or anything like that. This leads me to believe that any type of file could be uploaded through this application. I've tested this out with a few scripts and other files, and haven't encountered any blocks with uploading these. I'm just curious if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions about this. I would like to disable the functionality, also for the reason that I don't want the database getting clogged up with multiple image files. Thanks in advance! Andrew

Thanks for the response lead4. I think my workaround now is going to be just generating a database report weekly or monthly. At this point in time, it will just be one user (non-GIS user) looking at these requests, so this path makes sense for us now. We want to expand this application across multiple departments in the future though, so that is where having a notification system for multiple non-GIS end-users would come in handy.

Reading through the first page of the Introduction http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/localgovernment/10.1/index.html#/What_is_Citizen_Service_Request/028s00000020000000/ would suggest that unless an automatic ticket system is in place, manual ticket creation (i.e. someone sitting at a computer, checking for new database entries, and then sending an email to the correct person) is the only other option. I'm pretty sure that I can use SQL to monitor the database and send an email on a trigger, but I would just like to know if ESRI has any suggestions to make this part of the Service Request application function smoother.

I too have been wondering this same thing. I have a test application published on our servers using Naperville's data from ESRI. When a new request is submitted or a comment is added, an edit is made to the ServiceRequest feature class and to the ServiceRequestComment table. So they show up in the database and obviously on the application. I think that this is a great application, as are all of these Local Gov apps, and I'm very grateful that ESRI is providing these. There has to be someway to enable a "notification" of some sort (an email sent to a particular person) whenever a new request comes in. Otherwise your only other alternative is to visually inspect either the database or the application daily to find any new requests (a tedious and time consuming task). My end goal is to be able to make this usable to somebody who doesn't necessarily have (or want) access to our databases Any input on this would be much appreciated

Good Morning Kristy, I ran into the same issue that you are having. A few things things that I have found with configuring this application: 1. The application will only accept cached basemaps. I had a non-cached basemap with hillshade that was too large to be cached. When I tried to point the config file to that service, it would just sit there and spin. When I got rid of the hillshade basemap, and cached a smaller basemap, then it started working. 2. I ran into the exact issue that you had when I was configuring the previous release of the application. I then switched over to the November 2012 release, which functioned more as it should (got rid of that issue). I would highly recommend doing that if you haven't already. 3. I had some communication issues with our server, so if you are running this off of your own server (as opposed to the cloud, amazon, etc.), make sure that you have the correct syntax for your services, and that you can see them from an outside connection (if your goal is to make it publicly available). Just giving an update -- i've made some progress. I found a boundary to put into the piBoundary feature class to be included in the GovernmentServices service. I also added it to the config file replicating the pattern for the other polygon layers. This got rid of the error message saying that a polygon layer was neccessary for the application. Now when the application opens up, the splash screen comes up, but none of my map services are displayed. Clicking on the address search button generates this error message: [INDENT][/INDENT]"map.getLayer(baseMapLayerCollection[bMap].Key) is undefined" I don't know what I'm missing since I'm referencing the outside URL in all of the service layers for the config file. Even with that there seems to be a communication issue with the server

Hi Lindsay, Thanks for the response, I appreciate your help! I have my config file set up to only reference the points. There are no polygons in my GovernmentServices service, so I got rid of all of the polygon services being referenced in the config file. That is why the error was unexpected, since I got rid of all the polygon layer references. I am using the previous release of the MygovernmentServices 10.1 (the one right before the fall release). My config file doesn't look quite like yours, but is fundamentally the same. So if there isn't any other place in the application that is calling for polygons, then it might just be a communication issue with the server. After the error message pops up, nothing else happens... no basemap, nothing. I can access the services just fine through the arcgis REST services directory, but the application just won't pull them.

Hello, I have just published the My Government Services Application, and am getting an error message that I did not expect. When the application starts up in the browser, I get "Error: Atleast one polygon layer is mandatory for this application.". I am assuming that this is referencing the fact that my GovernmentServices.mxd service contains only point data, as none of our government services are represented by polygons (example: we have recycling centers instead of curb-side pickup). I traced the error into the errormessages.xml and then into the default.html which generates the error message during a check on line 159. Commenting that section out bypasses the error, but the application still does nothing. It just opens the default.html and sits there on a blank map. I haven't been able to trace it any further than that in trying to find out where else it is looking for a polygon layer. I wasn't aware of this requirement, and was wondering if anyone had a similar experience. I don't really have any government service polygon layers to add, so if I could somehow get rid of the sections of code that are calling for polygons, that would be great. Thanks!

Thanks for the update Steve. I was able to work around it, but hopefully the new versions have really fixed it.
