OK and to answer the question - the extruded cylinders ARE shaded, but the default lighting in a scene is "noon at camera position" - meaning the lighting is from directly above. This means no shading variance for the sides of the cylinder. Change it to a date/time (if a global scene) or a different position (if a local scene) to see the shading.

I did a quick googling and found Documentation | ArcGIS for Emergency Management which mentions which templates support ArcGIS Pro. Hopefully this gets you where you want to go?

Folks, I'm looking into the reported issue with shading disappearing on extrusion (which sounds like a bug ), but in the meantime I would recommend authoring your symbols differently to achieve the desired result. If you use a "3d Model Marker" in Pro, and use attribute-driven symbology to connect the height to a field, then the cylinders will render at the desired height (with endcaps and shading) in the same manner as extruded points. An example of this type of symbology can be had by looking at the "Western Pacific Typhoons (2005)" Web Scene. To open it in Pro, go to Project Pane->Portal->All, and search for Typhoons 2005. Add an open the aforementioned titled Web Scene and look at the "Typhoons Q1" layer to see the cylinder symbol. Click the "burger button" in the upper right of the Symbology dockpane to see the "Review Connected Attributes" option - here you can see the height is driven from an attribute. More detailed info on attribute driven symbology is available in the Pro help: Attribute-driven symbology—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS for Desktop Regards, Jeremy W.

Tony, Here's some advice that may help, and some suggestions on how to proceed: For the crashes: 1. Please make sure your graphics chipset driver is up to date from the manufacturer (NOT from windows update, e.g. go straight to nvidia's or amd's site). 2. Clear your display cache. You can do this from Project->Options->Display (check the box for "cache deletion") 3. If you still get crashes, please capture the repro steps and send them to support. you should also click fill out the error report form with your email and any salient info so that the dumps can be automatically appended to any other reports of same crash signature. For the export: Be aware that 3d scenes are going to take more time to render, especially at large page sizes and/or DPI settings. The export process reloads the entire layout and scenes into a separate thread and draws the entirety of the layout at the requested dpi, and converts it to the requested export format. As a possible troubleshooting step: 1. If you can, let the export run as you leave work for the day, and see if it completes by the next morning. 2. If you'd like to experiment, try doing the export at 96 dpi to see if it finishes. 2. If it doesn't complete, you have found a hang in execution. Please package your project (Share->Project package) and send it to tech support so our devs can take a look at why it's hanging. SUM: Please report any and all issues you're having to tech support so someone here in development can take a look. We can also add any repro cases you can send us to our extensive automated regression harnesses, so the bugs will stay fixed! Regards, Jeremy W.

Roberto, Sounds like it! I'd recommend you call support if you have a reproducible case of this so they can help out. We need to find a repro case so a developer can debug it here in Redlands.

Not possible right now - that'd be an enhancement request. Please submit it at ideas.arcgis.com for consideration - and suggest what you'd like to see (e.g. skybox, just static background, etc.)

Stars go away when you switch to "Local" scene view. To switch, go to the VIEW tab and hit the "Local" button therein. This switches your view from Global (whole earth) view to a Local (fishtank) view. PROTIP: Local scene views can use any coordinate system, whereas Global views always have to be geographic. PROTIP: You may want to limit the extent of your fishtank view by using the "Custom Full Extent" and "Clip to Full Extent" options in Map Properties.

In a globe the background isn't shown anyhow - you see space and stars. Think of it this way: On a 3d globe you can have one or many surfaces. The primary surface is the "Ground". By default this gets its shape from an elevation source (from AGOL) and its color from the surface color (by default WHITE) and a basemap (by default the Topo basemap) painted on top of that. So, the base coat of paint is the surface color and then a basemap wallpaper gets added on top. If you want to see through the "Ground" you have to do two steps: 1. Make the base coat white - go to Map Properties->Elevation Surface and change the color picker next to "Ground" to "no color". Now you should see holes at the top and bottom of the earth (where the basemap doesn't cover due to using Web Mercator coordinate system). 2. Make the wallpaper transparent. You do this by selecting the basemap in the TOC, activating the APPEARANCE tab, and then changing transparency slider to make it partially transparent. Give this a try and let me know if this works for you.
