Argh this just hit me again and it all came flooding back - I don't want to spend a week regenerating tile packages (my intermediate data is long gone) so I'll try some JSON editing. I don't seem to be able to view those bugs, any updates on them please?

I uploaded a tile package with a hyphen in the name and AGOL refused to publish it, what are the allowed characters in a tile package's name in AGOL? Letters, numbers and underscores? Also, is there anyway to rename a tile package in AGOL once uploaded? Pushing up gigabytes of data from Desktop to AGOL only to find it won't publish and you seemingly can't rename it is quite annoying!

I've been able to take Esri Inc's Topographic basemap offline, thanks. Just having issues with Esri UK's basemaps now (the ones described at geoXchange - geoXchange - New OS Open Basemaps available for free in ArcGIS Online).

I think the easiest way to do this with Collector at the moment is to have a field / question for each value, i.e. Red? Yes / No Blue? Yes / No Green? Yes / No Yellow? Yes / No .. though this can get a bit ugly with lots of values.

Yep, we do the bulk of our work with side-loaded tile packages and they're good for performance and portability. Problem is if you have a large potential work area and people want to be able to work at good levels of detail anywhere in your area, then you have to generate a tile package at a suitable zoom level for your whole network - this can take a long time and result in a really big file (often too big for your device). Taking an online basemap offline lets you pick anywhere in your large area and download a little piece of it without the management of tile packages on the device.

I believe it's a runtime geodatabase as you can use the Copy Runtime Geodatabase to File Geodatabase tool on the data. This would also lead me to thinking there's no encryption in place, unless you had it setup at the device level.

This is absolutely possible as we're currently working through the issue with Esri on Android - take a large area offline, experience long freezes when dealing attachments. Esri are working on this though and progress seems to be good.

Collector for ArcGIS v10.3.2 release | ArcGIS Blog .. information! Not sure if you've had stability issues with Collector (we have) but this release on Android seems a lot more well behaved.

I believe they could (with things like Copy Runtime Geodatabase To File Geodatabase), but they'd need Esri software to do it - probably quite unlikely for a random person on the street. I guess device security is your best, immediate bet for now for keeping it secure.

I know of a few bug fixes in 10.3.2 - invisible features synced from other devices in offline mode, sync never completing when using Server, multiple prompts for secured features when syncing. Proper changelogs with advance notice of releases would be great.

Turning off location services on your device seems to be the only way to stop Collector jumping to your current location when trying to collect a new feature, when that feature is a point. Collecting lines and polygons seems to stick to where you've navigated to on the map, not your current location, unless you press the "My Location" button.

Thanks for the template clue Russell. I've realised I can stop Collector starting with a space for a non-nullable text field by changing the template in AGOL - e.g "FIELD" : " " becomes "FIELD" : "" - and this gives me the behaviour I want, users have to input something! Do you know of any problems with this approach?

We've seen this (3 minutes to add an attachment, black screens / lock-ups) on Android (and things you describe on iOS) with a fairly large area offline and using attachments. As you increase the amount of data taken offline the problems are amplified. Currently we're working through things with UK and US support to try get to the bottom of it - anything you can get through to the Collector team would be great!
