Thanks, and as I mentioned before Im new to arcGIS so its a little tricky for me...what is the difference between vector and raster data? In that case I'd suggest doing one of the free introduction to gis courses from the ESRI website. This is one of the fundamentals of gis and if you don't know the answer to this I don't think you will be able to get very far on your own without being very confused! You really need to gain a knowledge of the fundamentals of GIS. It's not really something you can keep clicking buttons and hope the right thing eventually happens

Okay so it looks like you're trying to export the ArcMap Document file (.mxd). This is the workspace you are working on and not the files you are trying to export. Open the .mxd file and look in the Table of Contents at the left hand side of the screen (If it's not there click the Window drop down menu at the top of the screen then select Table of Contents). What you want to do is right click on the layers in the Table of Contents then go to Data and then Export Data. It will also help if you know your files are vector or raster data.

I'm looking into creating a layer showing the depth of material lost from a DEM. What I want to do is create a "cap" over the DEM. Imagine a flat surface over the DEM before any erosion occured. Now I can extract elevation values by converting a boundary to points and extracting elevation values. What I am wondering is what is the best way to extract the highest values at equal intervals across a DEM. Say I'd like to extract the hightest point from every 50m area of DEM and have this converted to a point showing the location. I could then create a TIN from these highest location points to give an approximate estimation of the DEM surface before erosion occured. Does anyone know the best way to go about this or have alternative suggestions on how to do this? Thanks for any help! 🙂

ArcGIS has built in tools for supervised and unsupervised classification. You might want to have a look at eCognition for object orientated image analysis.

I have a high resolution DEM and a series of point depths collecting during a survey. The points represent depths of soil as certain points. I can model the soil depths using kriging to produce a soil depth surface. What I was wondering about is what would be the best way to represent the difference between soil depth and the surface elevation of the dem? Also I was wondering if there is some kind of way that I could create a 3d representation of the soil layer? Thanks for any help!

I could be wrong but is it something to do with maximum cell size that you can display in ArcScene? I had a similar issue where I had some 10cm resolution aerial imagery but it could only be displayed at 1m resolution in Arcscene (Of course if someone knows a way around this then please let me know!).

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could tell me the best way to go about this? I have a DEM and a series of points which relate to soil depths collected during a field survey. I can use interpolation to model the soil depths and end up with a depth surface. What I then want to do is to lay the soil depth surface under the DEM and create a 3D model of the soil layer. Thanks for any help!

You need to create two dataframes and use one for the zoomed in section in your layout window.

Is there anyway to create a point layer of junctions as seen in the diagram in the link below? http://help.arcgis.com/en%20/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#//009z00000056000000.htm

I'm no expert but have you got it set up for 64bit processing? It sounds like you're running out of memory. Can you trying it with fewer tiles and see if it works? Maybe start with 20 and work up from there.
