Hey Rob, Sorry for the late reply back. I am not on GeoNet very often unfortunately. I don't think app updates should affect this (unless we introduced a bug). Is the issue still occurring? If so, please log it with our support team. Not sure if the "search for locations" is using feature search capabilities in the web map or if its using a geocode service. See that you mentioning VPN too so if it is an ArcGIS Server feature service that could be a factor too. Lots of variables to consider in debugging it. Instead of going back and forth on the forum I think it would be best to have a support analyst walk through it with you so you get a timely response. Thanks for posting it.

Thank you Terry, Andrew and Chris. We will make sure to provide updates on status as we move forward. With Collector on the iOS and Android platforms, we just went through a major product rebuild (somewhat analogous to going from ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro). In total, it was approximately 2 years in the making. Explorer on Windows gives us a leg up as it has a new UX and is built on the latest ArcGIS Runtime SDKs but rebuilding the data collection experience is not a trivial task. It will take considerable time to build. It would be great to get a sense of the priorities you all have on editing functionality as well? What collection workflows are most important to you? Editing of feature attributes? High accuracy GPS-based data collection? I'd like to have as many data points and details as you can provide. Thank you for the feedback.

Thanks for the comments in this thread, both good and snarky. We have a lot of exciting new development coming with data collection, Forms, Arcade, and Attribute Rules. Some good news is that FeatureSets have made their way into the released version of ArcGIS Runtime 100.8 so we can start to build against them now. We are also working on a new feature form or "smart form" that introduces grouping, conditional visibility (using Arcade expressions), proper setting of required fields and much more. We'll be kicking off a beta program of this new forms capability later in the summer. We'll be announcing the first phase of the beta program in a couple of weeks. Attribute rules are also important in our future - they need to execute on the client. There is some additional plumbing to be done to fully support both of these though (both in Hosted Feature Services and Runtime). I'd love to know what workflows you are trying to solve. It will help us in prioritizing some of the work. Can you comment?

Hi Kristan, We have not done a very good job of communicating our positioning on the Windows platform with our native runtime apps and I apologize for the frustration this has caused. To be frank, we have been struggling to determine the right path forward ourselves. Apologies again for this brain dump but I want to share where we are today and provide you with as much detail as I can. Some Background Info Our core field apps, Collector, Explorer, Navigator, Workforce and Tracker are built using the native runtime SDKs for each platform (Swift for iOS, Kotlin for Android, .NET/UWP for Windows). We build our software this way so that we can squeeze out the best experience possible using the device OS you are investing in. Our developers are organized primarily by platform and language but our devs are pretty amazing and most can switch context and work on iOS or Android platforms. The rest of our product team (QA/doc and to some degree design) are agnostic of platform. As you have mentioned above though, it has taken us 2 years to build the Aurora version of Collector on the iOS/Android platforms. What have we been doing on Windows? Last year we built and released Explorer on the windows platform. Why Explorer and not Collector? For 2 reasons: 1. Customer requests. A number of our key sectors were asking for a Windows Mobile-based mapping solution that supports mounted in-vehicle Windows devices as well as tear away use in your hand tablets. Functionality needed to support all of the online/offline map viewing capabilities of Collector and provide the ability to redline/sketch on top of the map. 2. Windows Mobile Hardware and development environments for Windows. We saw promise with the new Surface tablets and their ability to be used in the field. The cellular-enabled Surface Go tablet appeared to be a strong competitor to the 10inch iPad with built-in GPS. Microsoft promotes using UWP as their development environment for touch-screen tablets and our field apps are designed for tablet and smartphone form factors. It seemed like a good fit for us to design a hold in your hand and vehicle-mounted user experience and we could focus on map navigation, search and sketching to start with. What about Collector? Building the field data capture experience that Collector has and integrating with external GPS receivers on a Windows platform is a much higher bar. In the time we have built the Explorer app, we have been following the trends in development environments for the Windows platform and UWP has come into question, and then there is the market need for Collector on Windows too. We monitor adoption by each platform as best we can. We use a combination of store metrics, login events to ArcGIS Online, and conversations with our sector sales team, support and directly with customers like yourself to make our decisions. What you see here is a sampling of login events (when someone logs into their organization) with Collector starting in January until now. Blue is the android platform, green is the iOS platform, and orange is the Windows platform. As you can see, iOS is quite dominant, Android is somewhat of a close second with Windows a very distant 3rd. Does it warrant continued investment in staffing a development team for the Windows platform? One that we struggle with. But it is just a single data point and not enough to make decisions from. In fact, over the course of the past 6 months we have seen a spike in interest for Windows devices in the field and that is quite telling. Perhaps it's due to change management where Windows 7 based devices are phased out and new Windows 10 devices are being phased in? When we ask customers some say they are moving away from Windows devices because they are too costly and then when we talk to other customers they say they are phasing out iOS devices to streamline costs and the organization wants to institute a one device policy. Where do we go from here? We are evaluating our path forward from a development and resources perspective. We want to talk to learn more about your needs on the Windows 10 platform to make sure that we are not missing important information as well. A while back we posted a blog article talking about our "pause" in development on Windows and requested customers email esriApps4Windows10@esri.com and provide us with additional details/engage in a dialog with you. We need your feedback and we want to know details on the devices you use, how many of them you have, how you use them (mounted or handheld), what workflows you are using them for, etc. Thank you. Jeff

Hi Veronica, Thank you for reaching out. As you mention, new products are being released all of the time and it is difficult to stay current with the latest hardware offerings. From the Collector product perspective, I can say that we do see a wide variety of devices being used and it can be quite difficult to choose what best fits for your organization. A few key considerations with tablets: 1. GPS - unlike a phone, most tablets do not have a GPS chipset included unless you purchase the WiFi + Cellular model. That may be OK for your needs as you can supplement the location capability with an external GPS as well but good to consider as it adds to the price. 2. Rugged vs Non-Rugged with casings - varied opinions here. You obviously are going to pay more for rugged devices than non-rugged and this can be a very personal choice for an organization. 3. Platform and your IT group - your IT department *should* have a policy for mobile devices, most do. They may be restrictive on platform, they may have an MDM for configuring apps that can work inside of the firewall, etc. Best to reach out ahead of any purchase. I can tell you that for user adoption with Collector: Apple Platform - iPhones out number iPads almost 2:1. Apple does not provide us with details on the specific iPad models but from the customers I have spoken with, the 10inch model seems to be the sweet spot. Not too large and not too small. Apple adoption also far outweighs Android adoption. Android Platform - a lot more fragmented when it comes to devices, as you would expect. However the most used manufacturer is Samsung and the Samsung Galaxy tabs are most commonly used with Collector. I hope this helps. It would be great to hear experiences/thoughts from users here. I hope to see this thread grow! Jeff

Hi Mitchell, The app link scheme that you are using is not supported with the released version of Collector on the Android platform. It is however with the beta version. We are very close to releasing the beta version (ETA is end of March). you can join the Early Adopter program here or download the beta directly from Google Play here and give it a try. Please let us know how you make out with the beta version! Thanks, Jeff

Hi Terry, The iOS version of Collector has additional functionality that is not present in the Windows version. In fact, the Windows version of Collector is fairly outdated in comparison. We are currently not developing Collector on the Windows platform due to lack of demand and available resources. We'd love to hear from you on your needs for Windows support. Can you please email esriApps4Windows10@esri.com and provide us with some details about your organization, your Windows devices and workflows for use with Collector? That will help us in building priority to continue development on the Windows platform. Thanks Jeff

Hi Jacqueline, Sorry that you have run into this issue! Code 10018 looks to be a different issue than the domain issue reported above. Can you please log a technical support case so that one of our analysts can document the problem and we can work on a resolution? Thanks! Jeff

Hi Konrad, The Workforce web app will execute the feature search you set up in the web map, however it does not provide you with any search suggestions nor does it provide the drop down that lets you determine what layer to search against (like you see in the Map Viewer app). This is being considered for a future release of Workforce. Thanks for asking the question and for your feedback! Jeff

Christopher, There are 2 main approaches taken: 1. As David mentions above, your IT group can expose the Portal outside of your firewall. Here is a documentation topic that you can point them to: Configure your portal to use a reverse proxy server—Portal for ArcGIS (10.7 and 10.7.1) | ArcGIS Enterprise 2. If your organization uses an MDM or would consider deploying Collector through an MDM (there are several options), then you can utilize per-app VPN. This is essentially providing a solution where Collector will automatically VPN into your network using a cellular or wifi connection and access the portal. Good luck and as Derek points out, please have them give the Secure Mobile Patterns whitepaper a read. Thanks Jeff
