Hi Masao, Does this mean we need to have at least one ArcGIS Server Advanced license? We currently only have the standard licenses, so we will need to upgrade one of them to advanced? Yes, you will have to upgrade one of your ArcGIS for Server licenses to Advanced. Then we will also need to purchase the named licenses for the portal? Your organization may qualify for some "free" Named Users based on the ArcGIS for Desktop entitlements announced at UC. From the Esri 2013 UC Q&A: What is Esri doing to help ArcGIS for Server users embrace Web GIS? Please check with your Esri account manager/Esri Distributor for details. Hope this helps,

Hi Shreyes, I have a state boundary map of a country and i have non spatial data table which contains data regarding each state. How do i integrate the non spatial data with my map. ... Is this possible in Portal directly or i have to join the table in Arcview manually and then publish on arcgis server. To enable the display of your attribute table data when you click on a state feature in your map (in the Portal map viewer), you will need to join that table to the feature layer in ArcMap, then publish it as a map service. Hope this helps,

Hi Jay, Is there any one who can tell me if 'Portal For ArcGIS' is compatible with ArcGIS Server 10.1 Advanced Enterprise Edition? Yes, you can register web services from ArcGIS 10.1 for Server with Portal for ArcGIS. These can then be used in Portal like any other registered web services. If So are there any functionalities that portal for ArcGIS will not be supporting when coupled with ArcGIs Server 10.1? Please review this help topic: Portal compatibility with previous versions of ArcGIS Hope this helps,

Hi Jamal, FYI, this ArcUser technical article provides a good background on the fundamental concepts of versioning in ArcSDE geodatabases, Versioning 101 ... As I understand, the conflict resolution states which database is determinant in case of conflict. What I couldn??t figure out is the impact of conflict definition (by object/by attribute). ... From the article, "When performing a reconcile operation, ArcGIS finds conflicts in one of two ways: by object ID or by attribute. Conflict by object ID means that a feature is identified to be in conflict when any part of it (e.g., geometry or attributes) has been edited in both the target and edit versions. Conflict by attribute means that a feature is identified to be in conflict only when the same attribute (e.g., the same attribute field) has been edited in both the target and edit versions." Hope this helps,

Hi Tate, ... can you set security on feature class level in a published service? Lets say I have 20 features/layer that I just published into a service. Using ArcGIS Server manager to set security on who can see the published service, but then I want to take another step further by setting which user gets to see which feature class/layer. Is this possible with out of the box functionality? The functionality you're asking for is not available in ArcGIS for Server. As a workaround, you could publish each individual feature layer as its own map service, then set security/access permissions on each service. Hope this helps,

Hi Brian, When did you create your public ArcGIS Online account? Before March 2013? FYI, in the March 2013 update, public account sharing workflows changed: "New sharing workflows for public accounts Public accounts, previously known as personal accounts, can no longer create private groups, join private or organizational groups, or share items to groups unless the items are shared with everybody (public). Existing private items in public groups will remain private; ArcGIS Online will not turn existing private items or groups public." Hope this helps,

Hi there, ... I do not understand the benefits of ArcGIS Online over ArcGIS Server. ... Why someone should choose one over the other? ... Comparing ArcGIS Online versus ArcGIS for Server is like comparing "apples to oranges". They are not competing products, but are complementary products. ArcGIS Online is a map-centric content management system that provides a framework for sharing and collaboration of GIS content. ArcGIS for Server enables you to publish your GIS resources as web services. There is some overlapping functionality - but they should not be thought of as directly comparable products. FYI, please watch this video on ArcGIS Deployment Patterns to learn more. Hope this helps,
