Hi All: Can I get the "boundary" (ie the union of the footprints) for an image service based on a mosaic data set using the REST API?  I can get the "overall extent" and the footprint geometries for each individual raster item but can't seem to find the right resource identifier that get the boundary.  Maybe it's not exposed thru the REST API? Hi All, I'm calling the AGSGeometryEngine bufferGeometry for a point with small buffer distances of 10-100 meters.  The output polygon is short by about 25%... I'm overlaying these polygons on an imagery base map centered on a football or other sports field and the discrepancy is glaringly obvious.  The map is Web Mercator and I think this is one of those issues we deal with all the time in ArcGIS programming.  The buffer operation is happening in a projection that's not optimal for the calculation.  I can reproduce the same issue using the Javascript API and the Geometry Service's buffer operation.  That service allows me to specify a "bufferSpatailReference".  When I use a local UTM zone for this parameter, I get polygons that seem much closer to correct if not perfect. Unfortunately, this app will often be offline a lot of the time so I need to use the local geometry engine not the remote geometry service.  Is there a way to handle this operation in using local engine.  I hope I don't have to write my own buffer functions.... point wouldn't be too bad I guess... Hi All: I'm seeing really SLOW redraw/update performance.  I don't have much going in the map: a tiled base map, a few graphics layers. In one scenario, two polygon graphics located at the map center are added to the first graphic layer.  These update each time the user pans.  In the other scenario, simple point graphics are added to a second graphics layer where ever the user clicks on the map. The graphics take quite a long time to draw...almost a full '10 Mississippi'.  I've tried removing the graphics and adding new ones, updating the geometry of the current graphics, etc... nothing seems to make this happen any faster.  This is for a data collection app and if this is the best performance from the native SDK, it's not going to be suitable for my client.  When the device is tethered to the computer and I can watch the NSLog output, I see my log "done" statement after the [myGraphicsLayer dataChanged] method.  Then I can can count at least to 5, sometimes 10 before the graphics draw.  Am I doing something wrong?   I'm pretty much following the exact code at the "Adding Graphic Features" section here: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/runtime-ios-sdk/concepts/index.html#/Managing_Graphic_features/00pw00000007000000/ This is iOS 5.1 on iPAD 3 using SDK 2.2.  Thanks for any suggestions ... Hello all - I've discovered a strange inconsistency with customViewForGraphic in which every so often (about every six or seven calls,) the AGSGraphic parameter's attributes get whacked and using objectForKey: causes a crash with the following description: *** -[CFString copyWithZone:]: message sent to deallocated instance 0xeda0de0 It always seems to happen when trying to access the one particular key only; i.e. accessing other attributes is successful.  The attributes of all the graphics in this layer are never changed.   The mapView:(AGSMapView *)mapView didClickAtPoint:(CGPoint)screen method that is called immediately before the customViewForGraphic method gets passed a graphic object that contains the key of the attribute I am accessing, and produces no error when calling objectForKey:. Hello All: I'm exposing some of our more complex analytical processes thru Geoprocessing services.  This has proved extremely efficient, reducing client side code and maintainability.  The integrated nature of the GP server with the WebAPIs also makes these very easy to access and execute.  However we've run into one issue and while minor in the larger pictures, causes majors headaches in the client code.  Basically we've found that the "featureset" returned by the geoprocessing service is missing the field aliases when you use the 'JSON' format in the REST API. However they DO come thru in the SOAP API (ArcGIS Explorer test) and the REST API if you select format = HTML or KMZ.  If we use any of the WebAPIs the field aliases are missing.  Here's a simple way to test: 1. Create a simple feature class with a few records and a few columns with alias names 2. Create a python script that opens and returns the feature class #any feature class with aliases output = "C:\\arcgisserver\\Temp.gdb\\AliasTest" arcpy.SetParameter(0,output) 3. Load the script to a toolbox 4. Publish the toolbox as a service 5. Access the GP service in ArcGIS Explorer... field aliases are displayed 6. Access the GP service in the REST wisywig page with format = HTML... field aliases are display 7. Access the GP service in the REST wisywig page with format = JSON... Aliases attribute is missing  in the JSON featureset JSON structure.  8. Access the GP service with any of the WebAPIs ---  same as the JSON result 9. Access the GP service with the REST wisywig page with format KMZ... GE opens and the aliases are displayed. Again it's not a show stopping issue but without the aliases the field names are no longer user friendly and if we have to code the aliases in the client application is makes it harder to maintain and change the service on the fly.  Is anyone else able to reproduce this?  Is there a specific setting needed to get the aliases to come thru or is it a bug?  Seems odd the aliases would be available for Google Earth/KMZ but not supported in the JSON for the WebAPIs ... Hi All: Does anyone know how to correctly "project" a geometry from AGX's 3D coordinate system the same 2D coordinate system?  Here's what we've found: If we zoom into an area and messagebox the MapDisplay.Extent the values will be different in 2D vs 3D  even though visually the map seems to have the same dimensions.  This becomes readily apparent when we send the extent coordinates over to a server to do a spatial intersect.  In 2D mode we get back the only the features in the map view (as we'd expect), in 3D mode we get features outside the current map display.  I've captured the extent values and drew them in ArcMap and the 3D extent is clearly larger.  We've tried calling project with the MapDisplay.CoordinateSystem2D but doesn't seem to help since both are WGS84... ... Hello All: I've been watching Fiddler while debugging some add-ins we're building to ArcGIS Explorer. I'm seeing some very odd behavior. Here's the setup: * AGS Advanced Enterprise is running on a Windows Server 2008 R2/IIS 7.5 * Added some simple vector layers to a ArcGlobe document and published as a service using default settings. * Connect to the new service using ArcGIS Explorer 1500. In Fiddler, for every map navigation I see two calls to AGS server: 1. A call to a URL for a cache tile ie: http://myserver/arcgiscache/globeaca...1f6e/C00004299 2. A call to the service application endpoint method "GetTile" ie: http://myserver/arcgis/service/myservice/GlobeServer The URL for cache tile ALWAYS returns a 404. The GetTile call appears to return binary - which seems to draw correctly. The question: Why I'm a getting the 404 errors for the cache tile? The URL path appears correct: I turned directory browsing on in IIS and can follow the URL all the to the last folder so the virtual directory appears correct. When I try to grab the file directly thru the web browser I indeed get a 404 error as well even though the path is correct. I think this has to do with an IIS7 security setting that won't allow files without known extensions to be downloaded. Maybe I haven't configured the Globe Service correctly. Under the caching tab, it says it's set for cache on demand. Maybe these are placeholder files and should get created...however it never creates the cache tiles no matter how many times I've requested them. Maybe it's an issue with AGX. It doesn't seem to be an optimal request sequence and never appears to use the cache. When we add all our globe services and load test with multiple clients the throws a fit with all the 404 errors. Is there an issue with globe service caches and IIS 7? Any thought? I'm a fat fingering something? Thanks ... View more

Hello: We are developing a local/state government web editing application for boundary polygons like school districts and fire districts.  The API samples generally deal with VERY simple polygons.  Once we convert the samples to use feature services with more realistic polygons, they no longer work.  Our guess is that there is some limit on the effectiveness of vertex editing within these APIs.  What is that limit?
