aspect.after is a good way if widget doesn't publish the data that your widget wants. For your custom widget, I recommend to use this way:Communication between widgets—Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS (Developer Edition) | ArcGIS for Developers And, we have a plan to review all released widgets and make all widgets publish necessary data. Any suggestion is very appreciated! In future release, we plan to support another communication mode: workflow, this means we can put widgets together to complete one task, one widget's output will be passed into another widget as it's input depends on the workflow configuration. Also, any design suggestion is very welcomed!

Hi Roert, you are right. For Foldable theme, it's not good to open more than one panel. The design principle about responsive is that It's theme and it's panel's job to handle responsive work, widget is to interact with map. In the coming release, we'll add some new themes, which two of them can open more than one widget/panel at the same time. edu AED In the coming release, we'll remove closeOtherPanelsInTheSameGroup from panelmanager's openPanel function.

It's an issue that panelManager.minimizePanel() doesn't work, we'll fix it in next release. About how to minimize/maximize widget/panel programmatically? You can have a look at the minimizeWidget() function in widgetManager, it's very simple. It just change the widget's window state and call widget's onMinimize() function. So, it's widget's job to minimize itself in it's onMinimize() function. Panel has the similar design pattern. For off-panel widget, you should use widgetManager.minimizeWidget(widgetId); For in-panel widget, you should use panelManager.minimizePanel(panelId); panelId=widgetId + '_panel', you can also use widget.getPanel() to get widget's panel in next release.

If you change code other then create your own custom widget/theme, I think you need to do it again if you get a new release.
