Even though I work at Esri, I am not familiar at all with the ArcGIS Explorer Desktop SDK capabilities. I did look through the SDK help, and didn't see anything relevant. I wanted to point out that the Project method won't support input or output of MGRS because that's what we call a coordinate notation not true "coordinates". MGRS will be defined as a string. I'm also confused why you used HTRS96 as part of the coordinate system. Did you know that's the GCS for Croatia? So, my guess is that MGRS conversion is not supported. Many of the other APIs/SDKs do support it, like the ArcGIS Runtime SDK does include support for MGRS conversions. Melita

Are you looking for a "Language pack"? Do you have the installation program (executable) already? If you don't, you should be able to download it from the Customer Care account. If it's not available there, you may have to contact your international distributor for access. If you have installed a language pack, you must also update the ArcGIS Administrator to enable it. Open ArcGIS Administrator. It should show the ArcGIS Configuration Information page. At the lower right, click the Advanced button. On the Advanced Configuration dialog, change the Display Language. OK all dialogs. Melita

An alternative to Darren Wiens suggestion to use the Project Tool, is to export the layers in ArcMap to a new coordinate system. The steps are: 1. Add the lat/lon data using the Add XY Data Tool (setting a GCS for the coordinate system) 2. Set the data frame's coordinate system to what you want to use. The suggestion to use the State Plane zone for Tennessee was useful. A UTM zone wouldn't be bad either. No projected coordinate system maintains all distances, and using a small scale pcs like the USA equidistant conic would still lead to distance distortions when used for a smaller area like yours. 3. Right click a layer in the table of contents and select data, export data. 4. In that dialog, set it to use the data frame's coordinate system. Fill out the rest of the information. Melita

I don't know for sure, but that seminar isn't listed as full yet. You do know it's a two day class, right? Or are you talking about an EdUC course? Badge pick-up and other changes can be made starting at 730 AM on Saturday, in Hall E of the convention center.

I googled office 2013 dbase and had several hits. The third one looked promising--install the Office 2010 runtime, then hack the registry! I hope you can understand why I didn't post a direct link. Melita

The word is that there are no signings in the store this year. There will be a special signing in the Sail Pavilion/Map Gallery on Monday afternoon between 4 and 5 p.m. by Gary Knell (keynote speaker), president and CEO of the National Geographic Society. You'll be able to purchase a copy of the National Geographic Concise or Children's Atlases. There will be a blog post about it with more details. However, if you have any books that include an Esri author like Margaret Maher's Lining up data in ArcGIS. Chances are they'll be at UC and would be happy to sign a book. I know Margaret will be there Tues - Thurs, and mostly working in the Technical Support area. For others, you could ask the information desk there for the person's schedule, or email me and I'll tell you whether they'll be at the conference at all (mkennedy at esri). Melita

What does the raster's properties say about its extents? If you add the new raster into ArcMap, ArcMap will reproject all layers to the data frame's coordinate system--so the two rasters should still line up. Is that what you're seeing?

I think the OP means that the input coordinate system could be anything, not that it's completely unknown.

Hi Ditlev, So that was the issue. When you used the Define Projection, you changed the metadata, but not the actual coordinates of the raster, so it no longer reprojected correctly. You should try the Project Raster tool. Weirdly enough, the GCS/datum/spheroid/ellipsoid is a sphere with the same value as WGS84/GRS80 semimajor axis. Hmmm. Actually, it may be easier to reproject the raster in ArcMap. Add it to ArcMap and set the data frame's coordinate system to what you want the new raster to use. Right-click the raster's name in the table of contents and select data, export data. In the tool, select the data frame's coordinate system. This will mean you won't have to create a custom geographic (datum) transformation to convert from the "GCS_User_Defined" to WGS 1984. I don't think it's needed. Melita

As far as I know, my comment applies to all versions of the Batch Project tool. It's posslble that it's been fixed. GP handles their own stuff; sometimes I know about it, sometimes I don't.

Ditlev, Can you post the complete, original definition? Please make sure it includes the spheroid (ellipsoid) information as well. I think the projection parameters may be different. The "Sphere" and "World" definitions are generic and using zero for the central meridian and 60 for the standard parallel. What happens if you just overlay this data (with its original coordinate system) with a base map or other reference map? Does it line up or not? Melita

The answer's in the tool help twice! I went to check this section first, because it should tell you which, if any, of the gp environment settings apply. Environments This tool does not use any geoprocessing environments But as I was scrolling down, my eye spotted this note: Output will be generated in the WGS84 coordinate system. The output features can be reprojected to another coordinate system, if desired, using the Project tool. Melita

I didn't think about it before, but if you mean that some features from a layer (feature class or shapefile) disappear as you zoom in or out, that can indicate a problem with the data's spatial index. Delete it and recreate it (in ArcCatalog).

If you want to do it in WGS84 aka with the data frame set to a geographic coordinate system, you have two choices: Use a projected coordinate system based upon Plate Carree. If you leave the standard parallel to 0, it will look the same as lat/lon values do when displayed in ArcMap. Modify the prime meridian's value and change the GCS name. You then have to create a custom geographic/datum transformation. Use the Longitude Rotation method (there are no parameters). Melita
