Hi Noam, Sorry to hear. We will try to do that on line and polygon geometry and document it. Yes you can do that using the parameter section in the URL, for example http://noaa.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MapJournal/?appid=ceebefd9685143daa5bf30d5a7e0c7fa§ion=2

Sorry I don't know ArcGIS Desktop much and won't be able to help you diagnose more. Would it be possible to create a CSV in Excel with the feature ID and the attribute that contains the special links and do a join in ArcGIS Desktop? We are planning to document this thoroughly later this year.

You are welcome. What are you using to edit the layer? For sure you can't do it in ArcGIS Online. My example was done using a CSV with excel and dropped in the webmap.

Hi, Yes this is doable, see that example: http://www.arcgis.com/apps/MapJournal/?appid=d3fff6acdf5e4b08a82d99f07f20ddfb Map Journal has an API that allows developer to navigate between sections. See that documentation for the procedure Esri/map-journal-storytelling-template-js · GitHub This message has been edited to reflect a new procedure for creating those links in April 2015. The previous procedure does not work anymore.

Hi Jason, 1. We use "valid HTML strings" because your description isn't a full web page, it's only part of a page. Because of that most HTML validator will gave you hard time but that one seems pretty good Free Online HTML Validator - FreeFormatter.com . The main thing to note is that you can't use double quotes ("), this will break the app you have to use simple quotes (') or escape the double quotes using a slash (\"). For exemple to include a link in your description you will use <a href='http://www.arcgis.com'>Test</a> 2. Yes the application is minified and you should not edit those files directely, please follow the documentation on GitHub to extend the application: Esri/swipe-map-storytelling-template-js · GitHub 3. That's not included for sure and I don't remember other users doing it in the Swipe app but the application is using bootstrap http://getbootstrap.com/ that comes with Modals JavaScript · Bootstrap so you could use that. That's what the builder is using. Hope this helps

Hi, You can try to unshare the webmap through the item page and then share it again. This should warn you if any of the webmap layer is not shared appropriately. If this doesn't help, I recommend you duplicate the webmap and delete layers one by one until you find the one that cause the issue. We are going to release a tool to help you troubleshoot that early next year.

Hi Kate, Sorry about your issues. It is not possible to use pictures from Flickr that are private in a Map Tour. When you change a Flickr album from public to private, the pictures links will not be valid anymore and if you make it public account the picture links changes. This his how it should work for security concern but unfortunately it's poorly documented. I think Picasa works the exact same way but you maybe interested by testing that. Facebook works in a different way and it is possible to include private pictures from Facebook in a public Map Tour. Your other solution is to host them on a webserver, free solution like Dropbox works very well.

Hi, Yes the builder are integrated into the template. You are free to make sure it works when you make modification to the template or just ignore it and use the one from ArcGIS Online to build your story.

Hi, If you have long text and want a tab experience your best option is indeed probably Map Series. StoryMaps apps template are opensource, you can extend them if they don't do exactly what you need. That's what we did for that zoo babies application, it's a customization that we also distribute on GitHub but without any support.

Hi, Sorry about all your issues. It's not very handy that the URL of Flickr pictures change when you change the sharing but I believe that's a privacy concern. I am taking good notes that we should have a way to make that clear in the application. Regarding the issue with the image update not persisting, that's a bug due to the fact that your image URL contains the characters '(' and ')'. If you update your images name to remove those characters and then update the Journal with the new URL it will works fine. We are going to fix that issue in a further release of Map Journal. Thanks for reporting.

Hi, Extending a StoryMaps to better your fit your needs is absolutely possible. We release the source code of all of our templates and the application are quite stable so upgrading to new release should be pretty straightforward. Is there one specific template you are thinking about? From list of the StoryMaps application you will find a link to the GitHub repositiory of every template. Most of our templates could apply, to name a few Map Tour and Map Journal, Map Series, Shortlist. Map Tour and Map Journal would certainly best fits your need, they have extensive documentation about using a custom data source and are quite popular. They are relying on a layer to drive the story. Main difference is that Map Tour has an interactive builder that makes it easy to create the story. Map Journal and Map Series don't rely on a layer to drive the story, the story configuration is defined as a JSON in the web mapping application. It's also possible to generate it or modify the application to use a layer but there is less tool to manage those data and it's not documented yet.

Hi, There is no way to copy a Map Journal from Map Journal builder or ArcGIS Online yet. We are working on adding that feature, it's high priority for our next release. Stay tuned! In the meantime, here is the easiest way I know: Open ArcGIS Online Assistant and sign-in Click "I want to..." and then "Copy content" In the popup, login with the same account Find your item on the left side and drag and drop it to one of the box on the right side Go to ArcGIS Online > My content and open the new item (tips: using the modified column date sorting to find the new item easily) Notice that the id of your new item (in the browser URL bar) is not the same that the one in the item data URL (the id of the item data URL is still the id of the original Journal) Click the "EDIT" button Edit the URL field by replacing the appid with the one from the URL bar Click SAVE Your new Map Journal reference the same maps and medias. Besides that everything is duplicated (narrative content, global settings, section configuration) so you can truly experiment. Enjoy
