The terminology can be confusing and it does change over time, so someone else may have comments on my view... In general, I refer to hosted layers as being stored in ArcGIS Online. While ArcGIS Online leverages many cloud infrastructures (e.g., Amazon, Azure), this is sort of a back end detail that most can ignore (but may be nice to know). And ArcGIS Online's implementation can change over time as technology changes. Portal For ArcGIS is a product that is an extension to ArcGIS for Server. I have also heard people refer to ArcGIS Online as an "online portal" and Portal for ArcGIS as the "on premises portal," and that sort of makes sense too because Portal for ArcGIS, from a user perspective, looks and works very similar to the ArcGIS.com website. But, again, the back end implementation of Portal for ArcGIS is different, as it uses ArcGIS for Server, and not cloud infrastructure. (Note, your Portal for ArcGIS may be a hybrid that also accesses the cloud.) It sounds like some people may be concerned about the security of your data when stored in ArcGIS Online. Visit this site, http://trust.arcgis.com, for more information. Hope this helps. MIke

In our next release, we'll have support for heat maps, but not clustering yet. This is a work in progress. If your data is hosted on your own ArcGIS Server as a Map Service, you will need to add the individual layer of the map service in order to draw a heat map. For example, to access the first layer of a map service: "http://<domain>/arcgis/rest/services/California/MapServer/0" Thanks, Mike

It's technically challenging for us to allow an admin to save a web map as its owner. Thus, we don't do it now. I think Tobias provides an good workaround to the problem in the post above. Thanks, Mike

Turns out this is being limited by the arcgis.com application not privileges. I don't know why, but I'll see if I can find out. Bottom line, however, is that you can't save as an admin. Mike

What privileges an admin has depends on how the role assigned to that member is configured. Likely, your admin is missing the Update privilege. Mike

Yes, there is only one owner for an item. However, with an organizational account, someone with the role of administrator does have full control over all items. Thanks, Mike

Thank you. This is a thoughtful, well articulated list. I can tell you that we have thought about all of these to some extent, and they require a bit of thought, engineering and time to get them right. While I don't know specific timelines, we are fully committed to building the platform to suit the needs of customers like you. Our product management team has seen your list and may contact you in the future as needed. Thanks, Mike

Unfortunately, Esri can't remove your account. There may be data associated with it that now belongs to the organization (you may recall the notice when you signed up saying that the account you are bringing into the organization now belongs to the organization). It's up to the organization to delete you. Once deleted, your username will be freed up to sign again, but you'll effectively be starting over, creating a new account. None of the content you may have had will remain. Thanks, Mike

The Esri default print service provides very basic printing. It is not intended to produce high fidelity, large format printouts. You are correct when you say that the printing options vary somewhat within the platform. Currently, the most configurable printing can be had from an application created from the Web App Builder. If your organization uses the default print service, layers that are not accessible externally, time-aware layers, and KML ground overlays and network links without refresh properties do not appear on a printed map. If your organization uses a custom print service, certain types of layers may not appear on a printed map. An organization can specify their own print service, that is running in house on an ArcGIS Server instance that is externally accessible. This allows you to create your own layouts and expose them in your custom applications. Hope this helps, Mike

The URL should be HTTPS. It sounds like you have a certificate problem. Who is your certificate provider? There are sites that can report errors on SSL, like this one: https://www.sslshopper.com/ssl-checker.html Also, only ArcGIS Server Token based security is supported, not web tier. Hope this helps, Mike
