It's a limitation of the IE browser. Basically, when you draw shapefiles on the map, it's the browser that draws them. IE is just not as capable as the other browsers. I've heard IE 10 addresses this, but am not sure. Mike

Yes, this is a bug. What I'm seeing is that you get one try at configuring the application. If you turn any feature off, like the title, any menu items, etc. you can't turn it back on. We plan to address this with an update to the website early next week. Thanks, Mike

Unfortunately, popups on editable layers is currently broken. That's why you're not seeing any. We plan to release an update to the website early next week. As far as configuring popups for editable layers, it's not supported. Editable layers basically have a title and description and an optional image. You get all this information in the popup. If you don't want some part, leave it blank. It's not possible to customize the size of the popup. You can enlarge it and it will completely cover the map display. Click the square icon in the title bar of the popup. As far as viewing popups in embedded maps, by default we switch to our mobile popup version for embedded maps with widths 500 pixels or smaller. I'd like to make this an option, but for now, it's hard coded into embedded maps. Thanks, Mike

We currently have a problem with popups on editable layers (map notes) that was introduced in our latest update of the website. We plan to fix this specific problem by the beginning of next week. Thanks for letting us know. Mike

It's not just the number of polygons, it's the number of vertices per polygon. When I look at your shapefile, it does have a lot of vertices that could be generalized out. Mike

What web browser are you using? That may be an issue too. I'm using Chrome and can see the map display. However, it is slow to display. It takes about 10 seconds before I can see it. Your map is kind of big, 6MB. In the desktop world, it's not big, but in the web, it is. It's a 6MB download of data to the web browser (which takes 2-4 seconds itself), then the web browser has to draw all the shapefile data. Did you use the generalize option when adding the shapefile to the map? That will help make the data a little smaller. Also, if you have ArcGIS Desktop, you can generalize the data yourself before you add it to the map. The smaller you can make the shapefile, the better your map will perform. Thanks, Mike

@McConnell Can you elaborate a little more? The text you've included is embed code. This allows you to embed your map on a web page. I've embeded your map in my test blog. http://mikesarcgismaps.blogspot.com/2011/07/fire-map.html If you simply want to link to a map and have it display inside arcgis online, then this is the URL you need: http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=b8b4a1caec2c48748f419cc880039535 Hope this helps, Mike

Yes it should work. Is this the web application you are talking about? http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=5925e99dc71b4ff8be105564d5a9bc62 We'll have to investigate this. Thanks, Mike

In ArcGIS Online, editing includes both feature and geometry editing. There is no way to disable one or the other. You could, however, write your own application. Here's a sample that seems to do what you're looking for. Try viewing the live sample. http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/javascript/arcgis/help/jssamples/ed_attribute_inspector.html This is part of the JavaScript API. http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/javascript/arcgis/index.html Hope this helps, Mike

Yes, at this point, ArcGIS Online only supports time aware data hosted by ArcGIS Server. Yes, the REST endpoint of your ArcGIS Server instance would also need to be accessible outside your organization, but the service itself can be secured with a username and password. hope this helps, Mike

Seems like you were able to get your shapefile loaded into a map. The web map can be opened in either arcgis.com map viewer or explorer online. To add the shapefile in the map viewer, click the Add button and click Add Layer from File. Then browse to the shapefile. Thanks, Mike

The only types of data you can add to a web map are: services (map, feature, wms), KML files, zipped Shapefiles, CSV files, and GPX files. These types can be added directly to the map from the Add menu button when viewing a map. Here's some information about creating maps: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisonline/help/index.html#/Creating_maps/010q0000001n000000/ Thanks, Mike
