In T3G2017, as part of homework AFTER Day 1 (April22) and BEFORE Day2 (by Thu April27), we want participants to look at information on GeoNet and post a question, offer an answer, or give an observation about working in ArcGIS Online Organization accounts. The four themes from which to choose and contribute at least one entry are

  • Technical: start up, generating logins, setting roles and privileges
  • Content/sharing: Getting users generating and sharing content
  • Collaboration: Creating, using, and managing groups effectively
  • Management: Organization operations, especially maintenance at end of marking period, semester, or year.

THIS THREAD IS ABOUT COLLABORATION ASPECTS. (REPLY BELOW)

Amy,

When your students work on their map (individual accounts) are they in a group in your organization?

Are you envisioning something like google slides where each student can contribute to the same StoryMap by adding layers about their region of the world?

I need clarification.

Just like with everything in ArcGIS, there seems to be more than one way to do something.

I imagine that student will be using a variety of different layers from different sources (some they create others from authoritative sources). I think having them add all their content into one map could be a bit cumbersome at the end. But it is possible. They would just have to open the same map at different times, add their layers and save a bookmark or add a slide to the presentation. But this method leaves the possibility for many errors and will be more cumbersome.

Another option is to have each student create their own map in their own individual account. Their final maps (or apps) can then be shared to a group that is to be for only final products. All students will have access to this group. Then from this group, you can create a Gallery in which someone can view all the maps from a single location. This isn't one map, but rather a collection of maps. From within a Group, click "Share" and create an WebApp. You can select from the Map Carousel, Maps and Apps Gallery, or Public Gallery. At the end when students are ready to present, they just click on their map and go.

Hope this helps,

Amy
