Hello, all.  I promised Charlie I would post my idea/question to Geonet.  This was a couple of months ago.  When I received the email about staying current in using geonet to avoid being "deactivated", I thought I better begin now and come back to it later.

California has adopted NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards).  Our district adopted the middle school integrated model which is divided into 4 Instructional Segments (IS) at each of the three grade levels: 6, 7 and 8.

The fourth Instructional Segment (IS 4) in all three grade levels is focused on the environment:

Grade 6 :

  •  IS 4 “Human Activities can change the amount of global warming, which impacts plants and animals”

        https://www.californiaeei.org/curriculum/unit?unitid=66

EEI Curriculum and resources for “The Greenhouse Effect on Natural Systems”

Grade 7:

  • IS 4 “Human Activities Help Sustain Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in a Changing World”

       https://www.californiaeei.org/curriculum/unit?unitid=62

EEI Curriculum and resources for “Ecosystem Change in California”

Grade 8:

  • IS 4 “Sustaining Local and Global Biodiversity”

       https://www.californiaeei.org/curriculum/unit?unitid=61

EEI Curriculum and resources for “Biodiversity:  The Keystone to Life on Earth”

We are using curriculum from California's Education and the Environment Initiative (EEI) to teach IS 4 in all three grades.

A colleague of mine and I will be training teachers in EEI.  My thought is that someone may be interested in creating Geoinquiries that are focused on the Instructional Segment for each of the 3 grade levels.  I believe teachers would be interested in using those specific Geoinquiries.

What are your thoughts?

Before January concludes, Happy New Year to all!
