Line/polygon to points?

I'm doing an analysis of available parking spaces in relationship to certain buildings. I have shp files with lines and polygons of street parking with the number of total parking spaces for the length of the line/ volume of the polygon. I would like to automatically break the line/polygon up into X # of equally spaced parking spaces along the path of the line/within the area of the polygon. As there is no tool for this, any thoughts on a work-around?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

I may have just answered my own question.

  1. 1) Convert polygon and line files to raster.
  2. 2) Use “Create Spatially Balanced Points” tool

Thoughts?

However, the points don't end up being balanced, even though the entire line had a value of 1 (most likely to have point created)
