Someone wake me up or tell me this isn't a sick joke.  ArcGIS Server Standard Enterprise geoprocessing licensing does not seem to support something as basic as calculating a distance between two features.    Is there really not a way to do this?

ArcGIS Server Standard can perform ArcGIS Desktop Basic and Standard level geoprocessing options.
You need Server Advanced to use Desktop Advanced level tools.

Don't forget the geometry service too;

Thank you for the confirmation Kevin.   Bruce, thank you also for the reminder that the geometry service does have a measure method which I may be able to use in the future for small tasks.  For my current task I don't think it would be feasible to send hundreds of millions of requests to the geometry service one at a time, so I have written a REST service that will not use ArcGIS Server and maybe in the future we will purchase server advanced.
