I have a spreadsheet with the coordinates in DD. The Longitude numbers did not have a - in front. For example 114.235 not -114.235. So I added another column named Long and added the -.  I then tried to import the data into arc map using add data xy but the Long column does not show up as one of my options in the add data xy box.  I am assuming it has something to do with the original Longitude columns formating????

Thanks,

Jane

Actually I did follow your steps. I imported the original spreadsheet as a

table to the gdb...I used the field calculator to add a - in front of the

long numbers. Then, I used this table to import into the x y fields of the

add data.

if so , that problem I think relate with your spatial reference.

what is spatial reference you use?

While you are doing all this, are you adding the data to a new empty data frame without any other layers in it?  If the data adds to a clean untouched dataframe, then you have the starting point to begin dissecting the issue.

Yes that is exactly what I did...nice to know I was on the right track.

Thanks for your input.
