Exam Purpose

The ArcGIS API for Python Associate 2024 exam tests the candidate's experience with the ArcGIS API for Python. This exam validates skills related to GIS administration, content management, visualization, and analysis.

Target Candidate Audience

Data analysts, data scientists, GIS professionals, or web GIS users and administrators seeking to demonstrate knowledge and application of the ArcGIS API for Python.

Description of Qualified Candidate

The ArcGIS API for Python Associate 2024 exam tests the candidate's experience with the ArcGIS API for Python. Candidates should have two to four years of experience and demonstrate proficiency when using the API for web GIS administration, analysis, visualization, and editing.

 

Candidate Qualifications

A qualified candidate should be able to perform the following tasks:

  • Publish and overwrite
  • Clone content
  • Manage users
  • Manage content
  • Manage groups
  • Create views
  • Retrieve data from web GIS layers
  • Analyze patterns
  • Access feature attribute
  • Use imagery
  • Perform spatial analysis
  • Use Pandas (ex: table filter, dataframe manipulation, select records based on criteria, etc.)
  • Add layers to a map
  • Build webmap
  • Display webmap
  • Add content to webmap/webscenes
  • Edit features and records
  • Conceptual knowledge surrounding package management

The following tasks are considered beyond the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the qualified candidate:

  • Set up Jupyter notebook server
  • Distributed collaboration
  • Deep-learning related tech
  • Jupyter Lab environment
  • Tasks requiring a license (network analysis,
  • Install and setup of Python environment (Conda, Notebook, etc.)
  • ArcPy
  • Clone users, groups
  • Advanced data structures (abstract syntax trees)
  • Syntax of methods
  • Knowledge of third-party libraries other than Pandas
  • Raster analysis
  • ArcGIS Pro

A qualified candidate should be familiar with the following:

  • ArcGIS API for Python version: 2.1.0.3 (March 6, 2023 release.)
  • ArcGIS Online
  • ArcGIS Enterprise

Candidates should use the exam content sections below as a checklist to identify gaps between their knowledge and the skills measured by the exam. Visualization 20%

  • Identify tools for creating and editing web map layers
  • Identify strategies for visualizing non-spatial data
  • Given a scenario, use the GIS, features, and mapping modules to visualize map content

Analyze 22%

  • Given a scenario, identify the appropriate type of analysis
  • Given a scenario, use the geoenrichment, geocode, geometry, features, network and raster modules to analyze data
  • Given a dataset, use Spatially-Enabled DataFrames to conduct analysis (GeoAccessor, GeoSeriesAccessor, pandas DataFrame)
