Internet Explorer 8 Search Map window location off

GeoPortal 9.3.1 serving on an XP machine (temporary). On IE6, the Search Map displays under the Search input lines as you would expect.

On IE8, the Search Map image is in the upper left corner and covers all of the text input and options. The spatial outlines of the results do not show up. Has anyone else seen this behavior?

Expected behavior on IE8. You can force IE8 to use IE7 compatibility mode
