ArcUser Spring 2011 Article - GPT Incorrect?

I followed the tutorial from the Summer 2011 issue (good article).  It appears that the sample code for the GPT.xml is not complete - there are ports not defined and other areas that appear to need updating.  As with others on the web the symptom is that the 'administrator' tab does not appear for me.

That's about the extent of my knowledge of networking, sadly.  I've looked through the web at various GPT problems and they appear to be specific to the setup.  That's the bad news - the good news is that the setup is defined explicitly in this article.

Anyone else run into this and have the correct ports/definitions set up?

Hello Adam,
If the Administration tab is not appearing, that usually means there is an issue in the way the <identity> elements are configured.  In this basic setup, we are not connecting the geoportal to any user directory tree; we are configured just one administrative user.  In the <identity> element, the steps are to uncomment the <simpleAdapter> section, and comment out the <ldapAdapter> section. Also within that <ldapAdapter> section, you will have to uncomment the <metadataManagementGroup> section.  Will you confirm that you've made these changes? If you want a second set of eyes, feel free to paste in that whole <identity> section and we can doublecheck.

Hi Adam,

I'm really glad you like the article.

Unfortunately, something happened to the formatting for Table 2 and Table 3 when it was published. I'll get this fixed and it'll be correct when I put it up on the Esri Geoportal Server Media Wiki.

I've attached a PDF version of the changes to the GPT.xml and Geoportal.xml files from my original draft of the article.

Let me know if you need anymore help. (rkachelriess <at> esri <dot> com).

Thanks!
Richard
