i am new back to GIS

i used to be able select records from an existing database layer to create a new layer - but struggle to see how I do this in my student version - publisher ArcGIS - am I missing something really simple as this is a routine task and should be easy to do

This can be done from the following:

  • Catalog pane—Right-click a dataset or geodatabase and choose Export.
  • Contents pane—Right-click a layer, and under Data, choose Export Features or Export table.
  • Use geoprocessing tools.

That is how I would normally do it but thats the point - I don't have these options

Is this true for all data or just for a specific layer? Perhaps the data is in a database where you do not have the right privileges?

yes i know - its just there is no right click options and i cannot figure out why not - is it set up wrong, in the wrong viewer, setting etc  ?  - never had this issue before so wondering what's wrong with the ArcGIS i have
