I'm wondering what the difference is between the pic_url and thumb_url in the storymap builder. I have created a story map using a template. I have the same url in each of these columns. I'm just wondering if I need them both. We're trying to make the pictures larger on the side panel of our map, and just wondered which of these is that side bar picture, and then what is the other one for?
My story map is at:
https://wadnr.maps.arcgis.com/apps/Shortlist/index.html?appid=98a7fe4ea3764440ad59f0d9b0b280e3
We will be re-branding it as the Go! map and just wanted to do a bit of tweaking for the new launch.
Thanks!

Elizabeth -- Yes, you need both URLs. The thumbnails are the smaller versions of each image and ideally they should be smaller in size so the thumbnail gallery loads quickly for your readers.
See this FAQ for more information:

Yes, I've read in the docs that they are both needed. I'm trying to figure out what the difference is. Right now, I have the same url image listed for the pic and the thumbnail. Does one automatically get used on mobile devices and the other on a larger screen? I'm just trying to understand better.
Thank you.

I must have been having a brain cramp. Not sure what else would be the reason for my not getting this. 🙂
Elizabeth -- Sorry, I realize I wasn't really clear about how the photos are used in the story. 🙂
To clarify, the thumb_url is for the small photos used in the gallery view and the pic_url is for the larger one used when you click on a location to view it in more detail.
Yes, I understand that now. I’m not sure what my brain was doing earlier. Now, I’m kindof like, ‘Duh, how could I be so stupid!’. I will chalk it up to a senior moment. ☺
