I have map document which I use as workbench for processing only, not map making. I remove all layers from table of content when done with processing. Document has a couple of custom menus. They point to frequently used system tools and to my own tools (Python scripts) in custom toolboxes. I've checked 'Save all customization to the document' in Customize-Options.

Still from time to time I am losing customizations, i.e. menu items pointing to scripts stop showing parameters window. Other items in the same menu, which point to system tools, work as expected.

What I tried:

  • stop folders indexing in ArcCatalog and ArcMap itself, but it doesn't help.
  • tried to remove read-only attribute on folder with toolbars and failed

So my workaround is to keep working version of above map document and use it to overwrite original.

I use in_memory workspace when possible, but I don't think this is a reason, it happens randomly, even when I use SSD only.

Please help, if you know how to fix it.

Please try creating a custom Map Template.

Thanks, but no thanks. As I e explained in my post I know how to do customization.  The issue is how to make it permanent.
