I've downloaded the 10.5 program last month and haven't had any problems until now. I just tried starting up one of the programs (ArcMap, ArcCatalog etc.) and it just stays on the initialization screen. I've tried uninstalling and re-downloading the program, but I still get the same issue. I have a Windows 10 operating system that I've been using since last February with ArcGIS 10.4 and haven't had issues with that. If anyone can help me out that would be great.

Jacob,

Check ArcGIS Desktop 10.5 system requirements—System Requirements | ArcGIS Desktop

The above mentioned page will clear out all the basic system for Hardware and Software requirements. There is a link in the page which says "Check your computer's ability to run ArcMap" be sure to check that as well.

I hope this helps.

Close all ArcGIS Desktop applications. Try Resetting your ArcGIS application profile‌. Also delete Default.GDB (\Documents\ArcGIS\Default.gdb). Reboot and try opening an ArcMap Session again.

Sometimes, it's also linked with faulty graphics card or printer settings. If the above steps doesn't resolve the issue, you might update the graphics card and remove the printer connections from the machine.
