Attachment constraints

With the new implementation to allow .pdf (and others) attachments in a survey, is there a way to restrict this option? To allow only photos? We need to allow photos from the device's camera and files, but wish to not allow other attachment types.

Yes. If you only want image files, use the image question type.

If you want to allow other formats, use the file question type.

Thank you, Ismael. Maybe we're experiencing a bug then. We are currently using the image type for our images and, up until now, have never been able to attach anything other than images. Currently with our same survey we can now upload a .pdf and other types. This is not ideal for our records.

  • What Survey123 app are you using? Web app or field app?
  • On what operating system can you upload a document into an image question?

Absolutely. We're using field app version 3.11.164 and the process was replicated on both a windows laptop and an ios device. The user was able to upload both .pdf and .docx, however the .pdf appeared only as a black screen when selected to view. If it matters, we used Connect version 3.12.195Beta to publish the survey.

Thanks @JaredRyan1 for the follow up. I can confirm that this is not the expected behavior.  Our initial investigation of this shows that the issue only appears on iOS. We need to look at Windows more closely and see if we can reproduce. If you do not mind, please open an Esri Technical Support case so this is officially logged and worked on.
