Hello everyone!

I'm looking into try to convert some of our legacy StoryMaps into the current template - my python abilities are pretty terrible, so I haven't been able to get the convertor tool to work, so I'm experimenting with manually recreating the projects.

One function from the Cascade template that I haven't been able to replicate yet is overlying a text header on top of an image. Here is an example:

The "Study and Decision" header is tied to the table of contents (ie. on the top right). You can click on it and go directly to the section - so I'm pretty positive it's a header setup. But it's overlayed with an image in the background.

Does anyone know how to do this or something similar enough in the new/current template builder?

Thank you!

Hi @SaraJL - Copy/pasting my post from here since was posted in a thread about something else.

The "title section" from the classic Cascade template was not included in ArcGIS StoryMaps in favor of having the ability to include a custom separator image as part of the theme. You can add separators between story sections right before each heading to provide some visual interest and consistency across a story. This version is a bit simpler than the classic feature, but offers improved accessibility and readability. For more info, see this tutorial.

If you'd like something larger, or a different image for each section, you could create your own wide, thin banner images and add them to a story using the LARGE block size so they go from edge to edge. There isn't a way to add text on top of the image (and I would not recommend burning text into an image since that is not accessible), but this would otherwise look very similar to the classic title sections.

If you'd like us to consider something more similar to the title sections, feel free to submit that as an idea on our Ideas board so others can vote for it for future consideration.
