Hi, is it possible to create a QR code for a storymap in AGOL? I've googled and come up with nothing. If so does anybody have a link to an article to do it?

Thanks,

Andy

Hi,

If AGOL does not have built-in feature to create QR codes for StoryMap. You can always rely on third-party tool to create QR code. I personally would consider using Python to generate QR code.

After all, all you need for a QR code is its URL.

Hi AB,

Thanks for replying, I have ended up usign a third party tool to create a QR code. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something since I have created QR codes for surveys previoulsy.

Thanks,

Andy

I am adding this here because I believe this is the best place. QR codes are becoming essential and if Esri is not thinking about having a QR code generator as part of storymap, dashboard, and experience builder, I feel it is time for them to reconsider. Too often I see that people will create posters for events and try to cram way too much information on them. By having a QR code, you can essentially have your map with minimal data and then QR codes for different sets of information.

Example: I want to create an informational presentation about shipwrecks in Narragansett Bay. I can start by creating a map of the area that is as fancy or simple as I would like it to be but when looking at it you see it is about shipwrecks. Now we go multimedia...scan a QR code to open a storymap that discusses the areas with the most shipwrecks and why they are hazardous. Another QR code brings up an experience builder filled with dashboard info discussing the the statistic of shipwrecks in these areas.

In short, the QR code which was a bit of a dud 15 years ago is now the way to share information outside of a link. I think it would be extremely helpful if Esri had an ability to generate these codes w/o the need of a 3rd party creator.

@GarthHoxsie-Quinn - Thanks for adding your additional feedback on this. We don't have this on the ArcGIS StoryMaps roadmap at this time since the capability to generate QR codes is readily available in major browsers, and I'm not sure we understand the additional value it would provide to have a QR code generator integrated into the product.

If you do have additional information to provide, I would suggest adding this feedback to one of the Ideas boards if you'd like others to vote for it and add their use cases. Since it sounds like you are interested in seeing this capability become available across multiple ArcGIS apps, I would suggest the ArcGIS Online ideas board.

For now, I think you'll find it relatively easy to create QR codes from many browsers. For example, in Edge you can click in the address bar, then click the QR code button. Here's a QR code I made for this Everest story.
