Hello,

we have created a storyMap collection (https://storymaps.arcgis.com/collections/c6b3e8ea53bb43a1a3332d0e5c8bb709?item=1) where we show some dashboards. The dashboards offers the possibility to download the data of the charts.

If we run the dashboard links (separately) and try to download the data, it works perfectly.

If we try to download the data in the storyMap, it doesn't work. We had done this also using the classic StoryMaps and there still works (including the downloading).

We work for the administration of a city in Germany and we need this functionality in order to give the citizens the chance to download those informations.

It would be great to use the StoryMaps Collections for that as planned.

Thanks

Thanks for sharing this feedback. We understand this is not the desired behavior; however, the reason the download doesn't work when the dashboard is added to a collection is a web security feature of ArcGIS StoryMaps. Allowing downloads from embedded apps is a security risk and is not allowed by many apps and web sites, including ArcGIS StoryMaps. The download feature would also not work when the dashboard is embedded in any other site that has the same security policies as ArcGIS StoryMaps.

There are ways that apps can provide a secure download option when embedded, but this would need to be a change on the ArcGIS Dashboard side. We will share this information with that team internally, but I'd also suggest that you post an idea on their ideas board so they can measure how many people are interested in this feature. I'm going to close this idea since it isn't something that will be done on the ArcGIS StoryMaps side.

Please note that when using a collection any of the items may be easily opened in a new tab from the header menu. A workaround would be to provide a note in the app for any users who need to use the download feature that they can to open the dashboard in a new tab to download the data.

@ManuelDelgado -- I think you will be happy to know that in the last release (Oct 2023), the ArcGIS Dashboard team updated the download mechanism so it is now compatible with ArcGIS StoryMaps and other pages/apps that have a similar security policy.

This means that downloads will down work from dashboards that are embedded in a story or other page!
