Raster dataset within file Geodatabase

I have created a raster dataset within a file geodatabase on a local machine.  There are quiet a few original jpg images which total around 7Gb in size.  However when I look at the created file geodatabase (which was created new) the size is 150Gb. 

Can someone please explain how this could be.  I get that there will be some differences in size but 143Gb more....

Depending on the file size and compression of the input images, the file size of the output may be much larger than the input data.
