Ever since upgrading to 3.6, the Map Series functionality hasn't behaved properly. I have a map index layer and several feature classes and annotation feature classes that use page query. If I turn the map index layer off/on or made an edit to the index layer, more often than not when the display refreshed all the layers and annotation will have disappeared. I have to go back into the layout window to the Map Series Pages tab in the contents pane and double click the page I was working on to get everything to refresh. It didn't matter if I was doing edits in the Map view or the Layout view. This was never a problem in 3.5.
Also affected by the 3.6 update was Export Layout. If I spent any significant amount of time doing edits before exporting a map, when I do finally click export the program will stall at "Export in progress." I once left it for 10 minutes to see if it would export, but it never did. As above, this was never a problem in 3.5, and nothing about my APRX changed between 3.5 and 3.6.
This may or may not be related but there is "BUG-000181326 - ArcGIS Pro 3.6 intermittently crashes when exporting a layout to PDF" that was fixed at 3.6.2 and 3.7. Question for you - what release of ArcGIS Pro 3.6 are you using? 3.6.0, 3.6.1 or 3.6.2?
Currently 3.6.1
One test to consider is upgrading to 3.6.2 and retest your workflow. Does the issue persist?
Unfortunately upgrading to 3.6.2 did not work. Also, I failed to mention that I'm exporting to jpeg, but I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
Hmmm...okay. So there's an old Esri Community post here that mentions using 3 lines of Python code to export the file out. Might be worth a test while I continue to study this issue.
Hi @DrewC
Sorry to hear you're running into these issues.
It appears there are two different bugs.
1. Layers within a map being used in a map series having a page query are not drawing as expected after making edits, or changing the visibility of the map series index layer.
2. Export never finishes after spending a significant amount of time editing
Also, these issues are regressions with version 3.6.
I'm not aware of any specific known issues that would effect either scenario. I haven't run across anything like this with my own testing. Without more details on your workflow, such as how many and what kind of layers do you have in your map series? What kind of editing were you doing on the index layer? Were the edits committed before you were seeing the issue? What exactly were you exporting, a map view or a layout view? Were you exporting the map series that you were experiencing the first issue with?
