In ArcGIS Pro 2.6.1, I have created a map series of pruning maps. The map series is grouped by neighbourhood name. One neighbourhood might have 9 pruning maps and one might have 2. I would like to export the pruning maps so that each neighbourhood exports as a single PDF. Is there a way to export by the group as a single .pdf and still take advantage of the 'page name as suffix' naming option.
In the example shown above, I'd like Alberta Avenue to export as a .pdf with 7 pages, Beacon Heights/Beverley Heights to export as a .pdf with 7 pages and Belgravia to export as a .pdf with only the one page. I can export each neighbourhood as a .pdf manually, but I have 400 neighborhoods and it is slow going. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
This might not be possible with the built-in settings, unless you were to create a separate index layer. Doable with the arcpy.mp, though. I have a similar process for generating separate map series outputs for subdivisions.
You'll need your layout and map series already configured first, but once those are ready, you can follow a process like this:
I will leave it to you to explore that option if you decide to pursue it. It may be a bit of trial and error, but it's doable.
This is an issue I run into as well. I am exporting a USNG map book by township, but when I export by group name, each page in each group overwrites the other which I feel like totally defeats the purpose of having a feature that exports by group name. I end up having to go through and select all the pages in each map series group, exporting them group by group as a single PDF and renaming them each time. I feel like the ArcGIS Pro team either doesn't know that this is happening or I am very confused on what they intend the export by "multiple pdf by group name" to be useful for. I'm in ArcGIS Pro 2.9.
This can be done in the Export Layout pane. Under Map Series tab, under Files > Single File (drop down).
