Hello, I am having trouble finding a way to add custom made symbols (probably a .png file) to a point feature class in ArcGIS Pro. Any advice?

Activate the symbology of your point layer:

Choose:

  • Properties
  • Change from "Symbol" to "Layers"
  • Change "Shape marker" to "Picture marker"
  • In Appearance insert picture from "File"

Are there any specs on the .PNG file to consider? I'm importing the symbol but appears pixelated and looks too ugly on the map...

Hi Xander Bakker

I have done as directed above using a PNG file, but there is a quality loss - the symbol is blurry.

Should any specs be specified for the symbol?

I could do some testing (trail and error) to see if there is a "best" size to be used, but I think it is better to tag Kory Kramer‌ who might be able to provide us some recommendations.

How have you set the Quality?  Is it Draft as the default or have you adjusted that?

Hello @KoryKramer

I have some trouble finding info about this quality choice ? Can you specify some info about when it's best to chose draft, text, or picture ?

Thank you,

Margot

Sorry, I don't have any information beyond what is in the documentation.

Any solution regarding the loss of quality (pixelated) of .png images?

Was that on the maps or the Wordpress pages linking to the maps?
