Support layer style definitions based on SLD-Files (Styled Layer Descriptor | OGC ) - Load AND Save. It would improve interop. with other tools and software and data from organisations like European Environment Agency.
I posted the second part of this request as parr of my ArcGIS 10 betatesting:
ESRI respons: That will be a nice feature to have, but currently it's not planned for ArcGIS 10. Without client side SLD support in ArcMap the use of WFS will be minimal: to slooooow!
I can't imagine why it would be hard to implement in ArcMap.
I want to export layer symbology (lyr) as SLD file so I can consume 'predefined look' in other GIS desktop applications.
It would be a great interoperability improvement to be able to import SLD styles into *.style files and vice versa.
