Can Story Map be an embedded map in a web page or can it only be a link?

Hi,

I'm just learning about story maps and I'm really liking them. I'm wondering could a story map just be embedded in a webpage or does it have to be an external link? We currently have a google map embedded within the webpage but I would really love to replace this with an ESRI story map is this possible thru customization?
