A key resource for achieving the goal of organizational branding, quality, and consistency in map authoring and publishing is a coordinated set of map symbols. An organization that is administering an ArcGIS Online subscription should be able to post its own standard marker symbol galleries for the use of its web map authors. The current method of adding custom images one-by-one via a URL for each one is much too awkward and a highly inefficient way for an organization to employ its own custom symbology.
100% agree with this idea.
The ability to batch upload custom symbols would greatly help esri disseminate the use of AGOL.
The custom symbols would help the usage of AGOL.
Bernie Szukalski and others at #esriuc2017 emphasised repeatedly the need to have the same look and feel across applications within an organisation, so that regardless of the map or app the user see, the symbology should be consistent. The ability to create and manage symbology in galleries or styles would allow map/app authors to be confident that they are representing features the way people expect to see them. Big thumbs up on this idea.
This idea should also include Portal for ArcGIS as well. Going through these steps (How To: Configure Portal for ArcGIS with custom symbology ) is very painful and time consuming especially when talking about 100-200 symbols
Please! We don't use the GIS online hardly at all simply because of this.
Adding custom symbols to a web map using a URL is not efficient. Please make it possible it possible to add a different way!!
My students asked how to use custom symbols in AGOL without a URL, particularly Unicode emoji as a character marker. If you add it, they will use it!
