Today, we are happy to announce the release of ArcGIS Runtime SDK 100.3 (Update 3)! Please have a look at all that is new across all of the SDKs, as well as the specific items in the release notes for Java

We are looking to release another update in Fall 2018, Update 4, that will focus on another small collection of enhancements, most notably support for reading KML. Notice that we are announcing the deprecation of Java 8 support after Update 3 (Update 3 is supported through July 2022), and will stop supporting it in Runtime in a near future release. We want your feedback on this plan. Java 8's commercial end of life is January 2019, and so our focus will soon be on supporting the next LTS version of Java, Java 11. If you'd like to comment, please drop us a line here on GeoNet.

Sincerely,

The ArcGIS Runtime SDK for Java Team

The Java Runtime Development Team is proud to announce the first release of the opensource Java Toolkit for ArcGIS Runtime SDK 100! This toolkit is a significant addition to the ArcGIS Runtime SDK for supporting developers in rapid application development.

The Java Toolkit initially contains 3 JavaFX components at this release to help simplify your app development:

  1. Compass - for showing the current viewpoint heading
  2. Overview Map - for use with a map view or scene view
  3. Scalebara ruler with units proportional to the map's current scale.

You'll notice that the toolkit release is not tied to the normal twice-a-year Runtime release cadence. We will release new additional tools to the GitHub repo and Bintray as the development team completes them, so users don't have to wait for the next major release to start programming with them.

To get started right away, go to GitHub - Esri/arcgis-runtime-toolkit-java: Runtime Java SE toolkit and follow the instructions for download and use.

Please feel free to clone the repo, contribute and create issues. Your ideas and creativity make our products better all the time. Continue to share your feedback and questions here on GeoNet as well.

Happy coding!

Sincerely,

ArcGIS Runtime SDK for Java Team

Early next week, we will be announcing the release of 100.2.0, also known as Update 2, for you to download. We're very excited about this release for a number of reasons. 100.2 is the culmination of what we envisioned the Quartz 100 Runtime platform to be. It also brings us closer to functional parity with the 10.2.x versions of Runtime. Here are some highlights to look forward to:

  • Java 9 support
  • Display and identify WMS layer
  • Display and identify ENC layers (Electronic Navigational Charts)
  • Read and edit shapefiles
  • Read rasters from GeoPackage
  • Read and edit vector data from GeoPackage
  • Support for multi-layered symbology
  • Create and update mosaic raster datasets
  • Analysis - viewshed and line of sight on the GPU
  • Statistical queries
  • Improved support for geotransformations and custom geotransformations
  • Offline mapping enhancements - Preplanned workflows
  • Support for transactional editing

We'll be announcing the release very soon, so keep watch! And as always, thank you for using ArcGIS Runtime SDK for Java.

We are happy to announce that ArcGIS Runtime Local Server SDK 100.0.1 for Windows and Linux is now available. You can log in and download them from developers.arcgis.com today!

As we first announced last November when ArcGIS Runtime SDK 100.0.0 for Java was released, Local Server is now an optional installation component of the ArcGIS Runtime. We only released the Windows version at that time as part of ArcGIS Runtime SDK 100.0. This new release now introduces the Linux version of Local Server, and adds some bug fixes for Windows as well. That is why you'll notice the version number 100.0.1 is the same for both.  Learn more about the powerful analytic capabilities that are found in the Local Server at this release.

In addition to providing the same capabilities as in the previous release, Local Server provides additional tools supported at the Standard, Advanced and Analysis levels, opening up new workflows for data management, analytical, and runtime content packaging. For a complete listing of supported tools, please refer to the Local Server geoprocessing tools support topic.

We invite you to give it a run and give us feedback.

Have fun out there!

Friends and fellow developers, we are pleased to announce that the new 100.0 (quartz) is now available for download, for all platforms!

This application is very useful for a number of reasons. First, it acts as the "business card" of ArcGIS Runtime SDK for Java, useful for presenting core capabilities to technology decision makers and buyers. It showcases the latest and greatest version of the product. Secondly, is provides a quick and easy way for developers to see what the API can do and to immediately see how it works in a best-practice approach. For each sample, the source code is immediately available for cutting and pasting into their own projects.

We're very happy with the design and how it turned out.

Please give it a try and provide comments! All feedback is welcomed.
