Just getting started using the Maps for Adobe plugin in Illustrator. I have the Plus subscription.
When I search and add layers to my Compilation window, sometimes I want to use Change Style to edit what information I'm going to sync, and how it displays.
Problem: Often when I click the "Change Style" option, it doesn't respond at all. Without the Change Style options I can't change what type of information I'm looking at from the map layer I've just added, or how it displays. Since it sometimes does respond, and it doesn't seem to vary based on what map layer I've added, it feels like it may just be a glitch.
Is anyone else having this problem, or have a suggestion?
Hi, same problem here!
@MadhuraPhaterpekar, I'm following the exact steps from the Tutorial 2.2 on page 33 of the guide "Mapping by Design" from Esri Press. The workflow resulting in the problem is the following:
I'm using Illustrator 27.3.1 with Maps for Adobe CC 3.3.2 on Windows 11. I have an ArcGIS for Personal Use license.
Update: I installed today Maps for Adobe CC 3.4.0, the problem persists.
Here it is more than two years later, and the problem still exists. I downloaded the extension this morning and am using it inside of Illustrator 2024. I'm following ArcGIS' own tutorials and, just like you, I was able only once to change the style of the layer before the Change Style button became unresponsive. Other buttons in that context menu, such as Manage Labels, Filter, Item Description, etc., still work, but the crucial one--Change Style--does not. I currently have a 21-day trial account, so clearly since this is a 2+ year old bug, I won't be paying $500 to use this long term, but what a shame that ArcGIS has yet to fix this issue.
@GaryYoung1 sorry about this inconvenience. The team has been working to try to reproduce this issue but we aren't seeing it in house.
We have a couple questions for you that may help us narrow down the issue. Are you using a Windows or Mac machine? Is there any way you can send over which specific ArcGIS tutorial you're following and where in the tutorial you're seeing this come up? Or if you're able to see this issue in other examples, can you share those details with us? We'd really appreciate it!
Good morning. I am using a Windows machine and Adobe Illustrator 2024. The tutorial I am following is one sent to me by ArcGIS after I registered my trial: Resources for Your Maps for Adobe Trial. The tutorial itself is entitled "1. Design an Aesthetically Pleasing and Professional Map Using Population Data." I was able to complete all of the steps up through the Filter the layers section, including Step 8, which directed me to the more options button and utilize the Change Style/Options feature. This worked fine. I was then able to complete 1-7 of the Design the Map/Style the Layers section, which included another instance of working with the Options feature. However, once I began Step 8 of this section, the Change Style feature no longer worked. At this point, nothing else restored usability of this feature, including restarting Illustrator (which simply deleted my progress up to this point). I don't know enough about ArcGIS yet to know whether I could have saved the map, restarted Illustrator, and then resumed my progress, because nothing in the tutorial discusses how to do this.
