Maximum Allowable Offset

Hey all,

I have a quick question regarding the ArcGIS Rest end points....

What is the "Maximum Allowable Offset" parameter?

I know it generalizes on the fly (fantastic) but what are the units? Is it in meters? radians? rubber chickens?

To my understanding, Maximum Allowable Offset means the map distance ( usually per pixel) within which two points are considered identical. It is used to generalize thus reduce the number of points (vetices) displayed on the map. It should be in map unit(for 102100, is meters).

The ArcGIS Server REST docs have some info:

Description: This option can be used to specify the maxAllowableOffset to be used for generalizing geometries returned by the query operation.

The maxAllowableOffset is in the units of the outSR. If outSR is not specified then maxAllowableOffset is assumed to be in the unit of the spatial reference of the map.

I don't think there's an SRID for rubber chickens ;). Expect to see more about this on the ArcGIS Server blog on Monday.
