Let's say I want to add a search widget to a data hub site. Is it possible to connect this search card/widget to another/external Hub database? Like your search returns results (data) from an external hub.

Hello @Ed_,
Thanks for your question. At this time Hub does not have the ability to search content outside of a site's catalog. Conversely, we are working on expanding layout card embeds externally so that users can embed the search card in external web pages. This would allow users to search a Hub site's catalog from another non-Esri web page.

Can you explain a bit more about your need? What content would you like to search? Where is this content and would you be able to add it to groups in ArcGIS Online?

I think this could also work if the search card could get connected with an organization's AGOL items (apps, maps, data and/or documents) which are public and/or internal.

Hello @Ed_
Thanks for the additional details. We've logged this request in our internal system but I also suggest that you create a formal Enhancement request through Esri Support Services (ESS).

Currently, through a Hub site's Content Library and Groups Manager, you can add any content and/or groups from ArcGIS Online to populate a site's catalog. We're working on ways to make it easier to select public content, content from Living Atlas, and other Esri sources from the Gallery layout card. At this time we're focused making sure that the search bar searches against a site's catalog.

Hi @ThomasHervey1 thank you for the response, can you please guide me on how to create a formal Enhancement request? Do I just need to open a ticket or is there another process to do it?

Like do I have to contact a product specialist or just create a ticket to submit a product enhancement request?

@Ed_by submitting an enhancement (ENH) request through Esri technical support, other customers can review and add themselves to a request increasing visibility to the product team. If your organization has support, you can create an ArcGIS Online bug, and specify the enhancement details. This support page is the starting point. Once the support team takes it into their queue, you can track the status here.
