Here's what we've we've released in ArcGIS Hub over the month of February. A full list of new features, improvements, changes, and bug fixes can be found on the ArcGIS Hub Changelog

No more searching for search

We've brought the search bar right to where you need it. Now, on all Hub Sites, the search page (e.g., https://hub.arcgis.com/search) has a search bar directly on top of the search results. There's always been a search bar in the global navigation at the very top of the page (except for those that have turned off global navigation), but we've added a second search bar further down on the page.

Why did we make this change? During user testing, we noticed some users seeming uncertain of how to refine their search or conduct a new search once they landed on the search page. Few made the connection between the search bar at the top of the page and the search results that were listed farther below.

So we've added a more prominent search bar! The two are connected, so if you type a term in one, you'll see it in the other too.

Consistent values for DCAT license fields

For all you DCAT US 1.1 or DCAT-AP 2.0.1 users out there, we've now made it easier for your datasets' license information to be consistent. A dataset's DCAT endpoint often has multiple "license" fields in the JSON. In the past, these fields were not consistent: one would have the relevant license listed, but other duplicate fields would either be blank or contain a value that was not useful. Before, "license" was not an editable attribute, so it was difficult to make it consistent and useful for those consuming the data.

Based on requests from users, we've now made "license" an editable attribute, so you can add the "license" field and corresponding value in the editor and it will populate all of the "license" fields.

Stop long-running download jobs

Whenever updated data are available, ArcGIS Hub creates updated files for each downloadable format (e.g., Shapefile, KML). In some cases, generating these updated files would take a long time, depending on the service-level settings set by the organization, as well as the size and complexity of the file. At times, these files could ultimately get "stuck", unable to successfully complete the new file generation.

To alleviate this issue, Hub will now stop the file generation process if it exceeds 48 hours.

We recommend all customers to enable certain service level settings including enabling extract capabilities for both hosted and non-hosted services. Services that do not have extract and sync capabilities will still allow downloads, but they will be significantly slower.

See Hub Downloads: A Stable and Reliable Future for more information on this update, as well as a sneak peek of our plans for developing a new download architecture for ArcGIS Hub.
