Currently, it is possible to join a spatial dataset from power BI to a reference layer from arcgis online. You are then able to select features from the joined layer, and this filters the other power bi visualisations based on the power BI data, which works well. However, it does not also filter or highlight the relevant records from the power BI dataset on the map. In our example, we have our well areas reference layer and a dataset in power BI of well locations with XY coordinates. We join the two based on well ID. We then selected a well area polygon on the map from the join tool, this filters the other visualisations in power bi, but does not filter or highlight the joined well location points on the map. It would be useful to visually see which features are joined on the map.
Hi @Rickles_OGA,
Thanks very much for your idea! Have you tried to use the reference layer to do the selection? This way, Power BI data will be selected when making selections on the reference layer. Would this workflow solve the problem?
Hello @NaZhang_Esri,
From my understanding, the idea is that when a user selects something in a PowerBI visualization with the joined data, that selection then highlights the corresponding data on the map. The idea is "selection in PowerBI visual --> selection in map" instead of "selection in map --> selection in PowerBI visual" as I think your workflow suggests.
For example, we have a PowerBI slicer with a dropdown with building names. The building names data is joined to a layer on the map with polygons for the buildings. It would helpful if when the building name was selected in the dropdown, the corresponding polygon on the map was highlighted instead of just zoomed in or filtered.
Update: I am not sure if this is along the lines of your original suggestion but I added a duplicate of the feature layer and changed the symbology of the joined one to a bright color so when the PowerBI selection filters the top layer, it appears as if the feature is selected and contrasts the background. Not ideal but a possible workaround.
