Power BI report themes support in ArcGIS for Power BI
Themes support in ArcGIS for Power BI ensures visual consistency, faster report creation, improved readability, and a more professional look for your reports. It improves accessibility and allows you to deliver cohesive, branded reports while aligning maps with overall Power BI reporting standards. This not only enhances your mapping experience but also strengthens communication and presentation of insights across teams and stakeholders.
There are many options with report themes in the ArcGIS for Power BI visual:
- Apply built-in Power BI report themes
- Customize a theme by using the Power BI native Customize current theme feature
- Download or Copy ArcGIS for Power BI visual's theme (ArcGIS sign-in is required) as either a Theme snippet to insert into an existing theme or as a Theme file to start a new theme with ArcGIS for Power BI visual. Both options can include basemap and ArcGIS layers added to the visuals. All Power BI themes are in JSON format.
- Import a custom JSON file in Power BI by using the Power BI native Browse for themes feature
- High contrast mode
Note:
- To make the theme work in ArcGIS for Power BI visual, you will have to make sure the Theme toggle is enabled from the Format your visual pane.
- Themes are only applied to the Power BI data layer and map tools interface. ArcGIS layers and joined result layer are currently not supported.

Spatial references
A spatial reference defines the coordinate system used to locate the geometry of a feature. Spatial references in ArcGIS for Power BI bring GIS-grade precision and flexibility into Power BI, unlocking powerful location intelligence capabilities directly inside business dashboards and reports. In the latest update, if your Power BI XY data is non-WGS 84, you can pick the correct spatial reference from the Location type widget.
Home extent
Home extent in ArcGIS for Power BI makes maps easier to use, more intuitive, and better aligned with the business goals of the report. It will help you quickly understand where to focus and give report authors and viewers more control over how spatial data is presented.

Quality of life updates:
Save layer styling and properties changes to ArcGIS
For ArcGIS users, if you are the owner of a layer, have the Administrator role, or belong to a group with shared update capabilities enabled, you can save layer styling and properties directly to ArcGIS. The Save to ArcGIS feature is only available in Power BI edit mode.
Focus on a single layer
When multiple layers are added to the map, the new Hide selected layer button helps you focus on a single layer by hiding the others. To use it, hold Ctrl and click to select the layers you want to hide, then click the Hide Selected Layers button.

New demographics layers
In the new update, we’ve added 18 new demographic layers, now available as feature layers with enhanced capabilities. You can view detailed information about these layers in the Feature Information pane.

Bug fixes:
- Localization issue: Fixed the "Show all" button displaying on the left side of the Layers widget when clicking any group name
- Resolved issue where the Join Layer widget did not fully update when changing aggregation in the Join layer field well
- Corrected fuzzy appearance of ArcGIS layer filter text when page zoom is not set to 100%
- Fixed inaccurate count of selectable layers shown in Feature information pane
- Addressed Power BI tooltip displaying entire EsriJSON data for certain EsriJSON data
- Fixed single select functionality in Buffer/Drive time not working for specific ArcGIS Line layers
- Restricted Join Layer creation to ArcGIS users with User Type and Role of Creator or higher
- Ensured consistent default layer naming for joined result layers
- Fixed filtered legends persisting on Layers widget and Legend card after clicking hidden features or blank areas on the map
- Resolved issue where color ramp and customized labels did not persist when creating a join layer
- Fixed legend not updating after adding/removing Power BI data, re-rendering the map, or switching between pages
- Resolved issue where field settings in 'Feature Information' were not retained when switching tabs in Power BI
- Drilled-through features are now properly cleared when filters under Drill Through are reset
- Addressed occasional failure to map XY/Location data when first adding it to the map
- Fixed Ctrl-click functionality with various selection tools when making indirect selections
- Removed fields from the Title field dropdown menu on the Layer Properties tab in the Layers widget after they are deleted from the Color field
- Corrected symbol size for unique items on the map not updating after changes in the Unique Value section under Style options
- Fixed inability to change values or drag the slider bar in Size range when the number of classes is set to “1” in Symbol Styling
- Updated legend selection for unique-value renderer to base selections on field values
