Field Maps - intermittent logging out bug

Anyone with ideas how to stop Field Maps app intermittently logging out users between sessions - occurs on all Android devices.  It is disruptive to work flows, particularly for remote staff - when they discover the app has logged them out in the field. Same bug occurs on Collector for ArcGIS on Android.  Does not occur on Apple devices - a hint to the developers for debugging.

Hello all,

I haven't seen anything in the community about iOS experiencing this, but I have at least one user on an iPad that is having the same issues. Does anyone know if the Android issue was resolved with the update? We are all running 21.2.1. The user has been having issues for about a month give or take, so before the last update.

@HeatherMcCracken , have you all heard of anything like this with iPads?

Hi @HeatherMcCracken,

We have almost the opposite issue to this now.

We use shared android devices but have no way of forcing users to log out of FieldMaps. It never seems to prompt for credentials once a user is logged in now. We are using IWA and Enterprise 10.9.1. The maxtokenexpiry is set to 1 week. Should it prompt users for their credentials when they sync?

It is pretty impossible to enforce named user licences on shared devices in FieldMaps.

We're also having this same issue. Even after deleting the storage and cache, the username remains. We've also completely deleted the app, and the username credentials are still saved. This is only happening to our Android users.

Hey Vicky, you may have the solution to this already, but if not here is how you can address it:

I don't have a better solution (yet), but on shared devices, users can log out and close all ESRI apps, then go into iOS Settings, Safari, Clear Website Data and History.  This will clear the credentials so that the next person on the device can use their own logging credentials.  This is a security issue that ESRI needs to address.

Users who receive a device, can clear the safari cache before opening ESRI apps.

Yep, this is exactly what ESRI told us to do after I submitted a support ticket. This works on Android too. You have to go into the browser setting and clear the cache. For some reason the logins are saved via the browser and not the Field Maps app.

We are using v22.3.0 and still experiencing logout issues on iOS.  Is anyone else still having these issues with the latest version?

All good in the Australian Capital Territory. We have 120 users on the same invasive plants map, and no issues reported on Apple devices.  One thing that has transformed Field Maps app use for us is having a dedicated GIS Officer ensuring all the correct steps are followed when publishing maps and they also deal directly with Esri to sort out problems.

@SteveTaylor6  - Thanks - we didn't have issues with timeouts/logouts until we changed some security protocols.  Now we are forced to use Field Maps through a VPN connection on our devices.  Offline maps work fine, but real time is where our issue resides.

Does occur on Apple - Got a report today of users on iPad running version 23.2.3 having this issue. Any update?
