I used to use Trimble GEO 7x units for a lot of field work, one task was locating buried property corner markers. Another was setting sample point locations in the field. Trimble had an app on their GPS where you could collect your current location and the create an offset using distance/direction/slope. We usually landed within a reasonable search distance with a metal detector. Due to increased network security we are no longer allowed to transfer data to our network through a USB port connection, only cloud services as an airgap. The organization is using field maps, and an offset function would be so helpful. Im currently on a mission to find a usable app or third party device that does this.
I think this suggestion is already in ideas somewhere. There is a Canadian manufacturer EOS Positioning, esri supports offsets in field maps via their receiver and app. What a shame Field Maps can't do this OOB what ArcPad could do 20 years back.
